Dear LD,
I follow the local politics on your site and others and am thankful everyday that I no longer live in Liberty County. I left because of the corruption and do not regret my decision. I keep abreast of what is going on as I still have legal interests in the area and I also would like to see justice done to those that need it in Liberty County. However, I can’t sit idly by with the latest candidate announcement, that of Charlotte Key Warner for Pct. 2 Commissioner. In her announcement on the other site, she talks a good game and seems to have impressive credentials. But there are some serious omissions.
Ms. Warner has been on the school board of one of the most corrupt and poorest performing school districts in Liberty County. She has been president of said board for several years and during that time, there was a superintendent allowed to run the school district without the proper credentials and he held another full time job while on HISD’s payroll as well. The school district has been “under the gun” for several years for its poor performance and letters even went home in the high school telling parents that the school was not meeting State standard and that kids could transfer.
It is nice that she was a Tx-DOT engineer for SE Texas, but come on people, we have some of the worst bridge and road problems in Texas. She gave up her Professional Engineer (PE) certification to inactive status which seems strange to me as most keep that certificate even after retirement. All that is required is the fees and some class time every year, not such a big deal. So she has ethic hours; they are part of the requirement for keeping up with your PE certification, again not such a big deal and now she is teaching math at school. Why not in Hardin where she is on the board, they need all the help they can get as that is one of the areas that they have failed in. I’m glad I’m not voting in this election but if I were, it wouldn’t be for Ms. Warner.

I love the way you stretch and spin your points against Ms. Warner, but quickly dismiss her overwhelming TXDOT credentials. She is only one person on a school board with other members and only has "one" vote. She does not run the school....the superintendent does. Ms. Warner does not teach the kids...the teachers do. Realistically, she has not been there long enough for any newly implemented policies to make any affect. Also, anyone in the school business will tell you that illegal alien school children drastically affects school performances. Hello? We are being overrun with illegal aliens. Regardless, she is not running as a school teacher or superintendent; she is running for County Commissioner. The main job of a commissioner is to roads and bridges. She was a local engineer and has vast experience in that area. She didn't run TXDOT. She didn't make the decisions of where or how the money was spent. She followed instructions from her superiors and did the best she could do with the money and resources she was given. So, before you start flappin your lips again, use some common sense. Oh, by the way, leave the comments on candidates to those of us who actually live and vote here.
If I wrote "Ms." down everytime I talked and something was written about me in public it would be to send a message. What is the message MRS. Warner, what is the message?
Most people try to make their second move in politics after having some success. Charlotte Warner is asking us voters to trust her soon after the public is made aware of how pitiful the work she did on our school board is revealed. At least she has hudspa! By the way my wife and I have often wondered about the "Ms." Warner she refers to herself as. We just figured she didn't want people to know her business, but who knows!
We are slow to catch on sometimes around here, but some of us now see that we should have changed the school board years ago. I am not going to be ugly about any of the members but I will say I regret them having spent so many volunteer hours only to make decisions that we know now were bad for our children. Charlotte has always been nice to me. I think the nice thing to do is let her enjoy her retirement from txdot.
Well, I wasn't the only School Board member and when I worked for the state, I just followed instructions and I don't teach the kids, the teachers do that. Elect me as your Commissioner and I will do the same in that positon.
I wonder if there is a way she can keep her teaching job at Daisetta and still be a Commissioner. I think the Commissioners are getting around $50,000.oo per/year + aouto expenses. This would be great two jobs, two payroll checks, all paid by the TAX PAYER. Get a substitute teacher on Commissioners meeting days.
I love these ole txdot employees. They work until they can't find anyone that will promote them or they have enough for retirement and then they go claim that their expertise in road building is desperately needed elsewhere. They have a poor track record after leaving their txdot job however. They are really just an employee at txdot. Positions like county commissioner are more like being self employed in one way. You don't have to account for your time nearly as much. Txdot exes are not known for being good at this. As for their expertise, some of the best commissioners in Texas have no road and bridge experince going in but are excellent self motivated businessmen tyhat know how to direct their road crews while they are also dealing with many many many other things that have nothin g to do with roads or bridges.
It has been an expensive lesson for a great many precincts across the state to learn, but most voters know that a county commissioner has so much more to do than build roads and sign bridge building contracts. It would be a sad mistake to see Hardin elect someone on that basis and have four years of someone doing the best they can - only to see us falling behind the rest of the county. I have no children and don't know who was at fault for the debacle at the school but let's make sure if we are going to make a change on who our commissioner is, we pick someone who will manage our affairs in a way that advances our community.
