Liberty Dispatch has decided to respond to questions about what has happened to this area’s longtime TDPS Game Warden Danny Diaz rather than be guilty of the kind of selective reporting much of the Liberty County media is guilty of and in order to make sure we are not part of a cover up because there are Republicans involved. The following are the alleged circumstances as we understand them that led up to and caused Danny Diaz to lose his TDPS badge.
As some readers may know, Danny Diaz’s most recent problems began a few weeks ago when he decided to pull his gun out of the holster and fire it several times up in the air in order to get the attention of some young people driving four wheelers on the sand in the river bottom. Diaz followed up his "dangerous act" by getting on his radio and reporting to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office that shots had been fired. Needless to say Diaz’s actions caused a flurry as law enforcement responded to his call.
To date, though Liberty Dispatch’s understanding is that Sheriff Henry Patterson was encouraged to take charges action against Diaz for illegally "discharging his weapon" and "dangerous conduct" in a situation that clearly requires immediate action, no action was taken by the Sheriff even though the Sheriff arrived on scene and did not take Diaz's gun- something TDPS had to do.
To make matters worse, more recently Diaz was involved in an incident where he is now accused of trying to exact retribution. Diaz had arrested a man that happens to live near where he lives but the man wasn’t successfully prosecuted. This same man called the Liberty Police Department one day and complained that Diaz was following him and about to confront him and he did not think things would turn out very well – so please send an officer! When the officer arrived to find out what was going on he asked why Diaz was arresting the man and Diaz indicated he was just jacking with the man. Regardless of what was alleged, it was all caught on tape.
Unlike Sheriff Patterson, the people in charge of TDPS internal affairs in Austin responded quickly and Diaz was summarily fired and is no longer a game warden.
The possible problems with Danny Diaz do not end there however. Patterson and others in charge of law enforcement around here have a bad habit of allowing this kind of thing to happen and not doing anything to keep it from happening again. Unless Patterson pursues this further, Diaz could do like too many troubled officers have done around here and just move on to work for some other agency around here. If he does, Patterson’s lack of action might put people in danger and it may expose Liberty County taxpayers to a huge lawsuit if Diaz continues to behave the way he has. Henry Patterson's action clearly rise to that of a "good ole boy" mentality- all at the expense and safety of Liberty County citizens.
Unfortunately for Darla Diaz, Danny Diaz’s wife, this behavior cast a dark shadow on her bid to become the Justice of the Peace in the Liberty area Precinct 1 JP. The voters are not likely to want to put judge’s robes on the wife of someone with a reputation for retribution and they are not likely to put a gavel in the hand of someone who is married to someone who “jacks” with people, not with other good candidates on the ballot.

QUESTIONS THAT SHOULD BE NAGGING THE COMMISSIONERS
The voters are left with at least three very serious questions that all could have something to do with money whether Henry Patterson is re-elected or not:
1) Why were their no arrests at those two huge fields of marijuana law enforcement officials were led to by a concerned citizen?
2) What would we see if we were handed a detailed accounting of how the assets were appropriated that came into the LCSO for the last three years?
3) Whose civil rights have been violated by “investigations” that can be linked back to the sheriff and were the people doing the work even licensed to do legitimate “investigations”? Did they receive any compensation or even an expense account paid for by the county?
All three of these questions nag at my mind when I think that these people have said they are “investigating” all three of our judges, the district clerk, at least two of our commissioners, the district attorney, the county attorney, one Liberty police detective, two justices of the peace, one constable and several private citizens. Our commissioners can ask these questions of Henry Patterson and since the city of Liberty’s attorney has made public one of the open record requests he has received from Robert Valdez, it may be wise for local officials to gather up all open record requests sent in to any department and call Patterson before them and get some answers.

COURTS LOOK FOR WAY TO GO FORWARD ON PRIMARIES WHILE RE-DISTRICTING SORTED OUT
The Supreme Court handed the re-districting argument back to Texas courts and here is what they are saying about the primaries while they continue to look for a way to work out the disputed re-districting maps:
- They will issue an order suspending the deadlines of the December 16th order.
- They advised the political parties that they can inform party officials and candidates that the February 1st filing deadline will be vacated and that the drawing for ballot positions next week should be postponed.
- They indicated that if the parties could agree on maps and submit those maps by February 6th, that an April 3rd primary was still obtainable. However, the court and the attorneys have been very specific that any agreement is not a settlement.
- That if there was no agreement and maps were not drawn by February 6th, that an April 3rd primary would not take place.
- In the event there is no settlement agreement and maps are not completed by February 6th, the court makes no present indication of when the new primary would be rescheduled.
- In the event the parties cannot agree on new maps, the court requires them to submit advisories to the court as to which districts are still in dispute and the issues related thereto.
- The court will then schedule future hearings if necessary and issue new orders if necessary.

OUTSIDER CANDIDATE MAY ABANDON PATTERSON
This week speculation has increased that a major political retreat is soon to come from Sheriff Henry Patterson and his relatively unknown Houston attorney who was set to run for either District Attorney or County Attorney here in Liberty County.
According to people on his campaign team, part of the effort to push voters to give Sheriff Patterson a second chance and a new four year term was having a struggling Harris County lawyer friend of the infamous Outsiders rent an apartment in Liberty and sign up to run for something and campaign with him.
Until recently Patterson’s team has stuck with the plan they hatched early this summer. James Farmer rented an apartment this summer so he can claim residency though he has no furniture in the apartment and he has not spent one night in it. He announced his candidacy for District Attorney a few months ago and was set to speak at political gatherings and tell voters to vote for Patterson. But when a change in plans occurred and Farmer signed to run for County Attorney instead of D.A. it began to smell “Fuddy”, I mean like Fuddy Williams the right arm of the Outsiders and, along with Eddie Shauberger, the Wizard of Oz behind the curtains for Henry Patterson. The Patterson re-election team’s strategy is expected to be as bizarre and secretive as Patterson having a group of people from outside the county come in and brag about “investigating” half the known world as they lurk in the shadows of the sheriff’s office firing off Open Records Requests as they gather information on Patterson’s enemies. In fact, these people are so strange speculation that James Farmer had changed his mind about helping the politically endangered sheriff began to swirl as Farmer’s political signs are yet to be planted in Liberty County soil.

Sheriff Patterson is yet to come clean and open up his records and publicize the specific of how he has spent the money and managed the assets of the slush fund created by confiscating convicted criminals’ belongings.

CLEVELAND POLICE DEPARTMENT
A video that appears to show a Cleveland police officer pounding the abdomen of a subdued man that has already been handcuffed during a December 30, 2011 traffic stop is one more reminder of the kind of problems Cleveland has had for over twenty years.
The Cleveland Advocate posted a video on their website Thursday January the 26th showing Officer Paul Lowrey on a Cleveland Police Department dash cam hitting a handcuffed man in his midsection with a flashlight and then hollering at him to “do what he is (f**king) told to do.” Vanesa Brashier, the editor of paper, broke this story and reported that this case is currently under review. This story is worth reading and details of her story can be found at http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/cleveland/.
It is important for the traditional media to report stories like this rather than stay silent like the police chiefs and sheriff might hope… even if some might misinterpret it and rather than recognize them doing their job try and label them as anti-law enforcement. It clearly is part of their duty as professional journalists to report the good, the bad, and the ugly. There is plenty of good professional law enforcement and, if the facts of this case are what they seem to be, this is an opportunity to help purge the Cleveland Police Department of one of the few people that needs to find another line of work and to let the public know that high standards of behavior are being upheld.
The Cleveland Police Department and the community of Cleveland have been in bad need of positive change for many many years. The community’s faith and respect for law enforcement can only be healthy when they see unbiased investigation and appropriate action in matters like this. Though the Cleveland community is made up of many of the kind of wonderful people southeast Texas is famous for, their southern hospitality and neighborly country living is often overshadowed by a reputation for uncontrollable crime and scandals. The good people of Cleveland should not rest until changes are made and Cleveland’s potential is reached.
The most recent scandal was made more widely infamous by both local and Houston news media and federal agents. Former Cleveland PD Assistant Police Chief and current Liberty County Sheriff Henry Patterson and his sidekick in the Cleveland PD, Harry Kelly, both had keys to the room where evidence was kept in the CPD. Months and months of investigation in search of the facts surrounding hundreds of missing guns from that evidence room were the subject of many news stories and many rumors all around the county. When this case went to criminal court Patterson had already defeated Greg Arthur in the sheriff’s race; and Kelly had already been serving as one of his captains. Kelly is now serving time in the federal prison in Leavenworth, Kansas. With federal agents not being able to prove Patterson’s role in court, if he had any, he continues to serve as Liberty County Sheriff.
And Cleveland continues to have the same reputation. A community full of wonderful people, located in the beautiful pines near all of the things the big city offers, but still having the advantages of country living. Our hats are off to Vanesa Brashier for reporting this story, and our hopes are that the Cleveland PD, outside of any potential lawsuits, will start holding their officers to the highest of standards and fearlessly helping create a culture worthy of its citizens. It is a dangerous job that there is never enough compensation or enough praise and we salute the men and women who do it and perhaps sometimes feel the sting of criticism aimed at a few. You are our modern day heroes. Our goal is to support you and to give you the best leadership and the tools you need to have to do your job safely and with excellence.

WELCOMED, HARD FOUGHT CHANGE IN LIBERTY COUNTY POLITICS
For those who are well informed, the recent activism of the movement known as the Tea Party is only a national version of what started in Liberty County in 1994. The purging of the entrenched good ole boy system led by runaway unaccountable elected local government officials and characterized by a tax and spend mentality is nearly complete here in Liberty County. This is not a declaration that we are anywhere near having a perfect government here or perfect elected officials. But this is a sigh of relief because gone are the days when whoever a handful of leaders of the Liberty County Democrat Party chooses to run in their primary are the unbeatable winner in the November election and the defenders of a system of wink and nod politics that had no oversight. Gone are the days when the entire media served as more of a guard dog than a watchdog for the status quo.
For local people who have become more politically active in the last five or six years, it may seem like change came quickly and relatively easily. And they may not know or care about the history of the war that appears we will win in the final battle coming up in November of this year. But it is important to know for a couple of reasons.
First and foremost, whether it sounds like self congratulatory hubris or not, if activists do not realize the role Liberty Dispatch played in holding people accountable and keeping the good ole boy system from using their pals in the media from doing what they did for decades, then they will be blind to the need to push harder for our local traditional media to stop picking winners and losers and forming unsavory cozy relationships to politicians.
Please pay attention. You may have come along at a time when someone else had dulled the knives of what had been an undefeated enemy to the conservative/Republican cause, but if we do not use this period of time when we have a new political beginning in this county to do what we can to fix this, then when we are not so unified and when new kingdoms have been built within our political structure – the media may again protect interests of the politicians instead of the people. It has not been that long ago when the media would broadcasts any and everything negative about Republicans and try and make Democrats look like they were God’s gift to problem solving – even if they had to blinders on to not know that some of the same Democrat they were promoting were scandal-ridden good ole boys that were more like bloodsuckers than public servants. If you were not involved then, you may have been the ears the media was assaulting and you may have been the mouth they were hoping to use to carry their message – “keep the status quo, Democrat ‘good’, Republican ‘bad’.” We all see a faint reminder of this in the radio station still working to whitewash the FEMA scandal and Phil Fitzgerald’s contribution to the county.
Rather than pat myself or my colleagues on the back, I am myself am hereby recognizing and saluting Ray Akins for taking the heat (including plundered mail boxes, selective prosecution, and all kinds of invalid unwarranted demonetization) at a very high cost. Of course, the openly liberal socialistic policies of Barack Obama and the statewide surge of the Republican party has had a huge influence on Liberty County politics, but Liberty County was fortunate to have in place an opposition political party active and outspoken and already equipped and experienced at running candidates. And Akins, with all of his unconventional and unafraid moves, was ready to force the media and unscrupulous politicians to think twice before doing what they have done around here for years. If you meet him, pat him on the back and listen careful. He is battle tough and you have to get past the same crust on him that enables him to keep slogging forward no matter how much is thrown at him, but his contributions, though distorted by our political enemies and the misinformed, have been crucial to our success. When our victories seem easy and our battles bloodless, you might want to remember the pathway has been blazed to a large degree before the last election.
Second, those of us that have been around for years have at times been frustrated in what has sometimes seemed like a lack of interests and sometimes seemed like wrongheaded uninformed ideas of exactly who the enemy of the change we desire has been. We fought on the front lines and worked hard to begin a foundation for the future we are now in and when the ones that received the proverbial bruises and cuts in the political arena have found common ground in a few of the people who were thought to be lifelong political enemies, we expect at least enough deference to be listened to rather than have new activists adopt without question the motivations assigned to us by those we all oppose. It has, at times, been exceedingly frustrating to hear people (who were not anywhere to be found until this century) allow some of our Republican leadership that has as its priority (by definition) the promotion of Republicans and the defeat of Democrats pick and choose who they were going to use their influence to help. We had a chairman of our party helping Democrats and much of the leadership of the party had to be circumvented in order to replace the misguided chairman. If the newer activist would have been known more about politics, we might still have the counterproductive leadership that was almost openly supporting some of our most notorious opposition. Worse than that, we had the chairman and some of his lieutenants with very little knowledge of past history, deciding who would be offered an olive branch and be invited to switch sides. And again, without asking longtime Republicans who bare scars from battle that should merit consultation, our leadership never took accounting of what crimes and misdemeanors had been committed by politicians they were courting.
We should all be thankful that we have survived those times when we were working against each other at times. We should all be thankful we are two commissioners and one District Attorney away from doing what the Tea Party has just begun doing nationally. After we have elected people to these positions that are not affiliated or connected to the good ole boys of the past, we enter a new day with new goals and new opportunities to heal this county from its past and to build a better community.

WHAT’S UP WITH ALL OF THE ELECTION DATE CHANGES?
For those who have been too busy to stop what they are doing and find out why dates pertaining to the 2012 primary elections have changed so much, here is s short catch up article.
There are two competing sets of redistricting maps setting out proposed two different sets of borders of election districts in Texas for the State Legislature and the House of Representatives on the basis of the most recent 10-year census.
One set of maps was drawn by the Legislature, which is controlled by Republicans. Those maps seem to favor Republican candidates. The other set was drawn by a special three-judge federal court in San Antonio, and it increases the voting power of Hispanic voters and seems to help Democratic candidates.
Four House seats hang in the balance and all that is affected by the particulars of state and U.S. congressional lines. The justices have told the Texas courts that the judges have overplayed their role and the role their court should play in redistricting and to go back and use the maps the people elected to the state legislature chose as a basis.
As a result of the Democrats pulling out every stop they can to get their way, the primaries in Texas had already been moved back to April. For those primaries to proceed, officials there said, an answer from the courts was needed by Feb. 1.
It seems Democrats like to have the right to gerrymander when they are the minority just like they did for years when they were the majority. Almost all redistricting maps that are changed are changed to prevent racial discrimination. Democrats try to get the courts to interpret discrimination as they should at least the same percentage of seats for blacks (and for Hispanics) as their percentage of the population. Most Republicans are not as likely to want to categorize people in terms of race or any other category to form special districts.
This decision by the Supreme Court is seen by Republicans as a win for those who believe elected officials rather than judges are the ones the Constitution says should draw the lines. But the Democrats challenge is still having all kinds of bizarre effects on the election. The date of the primary is still unsure and who might be qualified to run for the state Senate or the state House or the U.S. Senate or the U.S. House in an area is still dependent on how the lines are drawn. No ballots can be printed until county chairman know who can run for these offices on their ballot.

There are two competing sets of redistricting maps setting out proposed two different sets of borders of election districts in Texas for the State Legislature and the House of Representatives on the basis of the most recent 10-year census.
One set of maps was drawn by the Legislature, which is controlled by Republicans. Those maps seem to favor Republican candidates. The other set was drawn by a special three-judge federal court in San Antonio, and it increases the voting power of Hispanic voters and seems to help Democratic candidates.
Four House seats hang in the balance and all that is affected by the particulars of state and U.S. congressional lines. The justices have told the Texas courts that the judges have overplayed their role and the role their court should play in redistricting and to go back and use the maps the people elected to the state legislature chose as a basis.
As a result of the Democrats pulling out every stop they can to get their way, the primaries in Texas had already been moved back to April. For those primaries to proceed, officials there said, an answer from the courts was needed by Feb. 1.
It seems Democrats like to have the right to gerrymander when they are the minority just like they did for years when they were the majority. Almost all redistricting maps that are changed are changed to prevent racial discrimination. Democrats try to get the courts to interpret discrimination as they should at least the same percentage of seats for blacks (and for Hispanics) as their percentage of the population. Most Republicans are not as likely to want to categorize people in terms of race or any other category to form special districts.
This decision by the Supreme Court is seen by Republicans as a win for those who believe elected officials rather than judges are the ones the Constitution says should draw the lines. But the Democrats challenge is still having all kinds of bizarre effects on the election. The date of the primary is still unsure and who might be qualified to run for the state Senate or the state House or the U.S. Senate or the U.S. House in an area is still dependent on how the lines are drawn. No ballots can be printed until county chairman know who can run for these offices on their ballot.

Anyone at public meetings that has heard District Judge Mark Morefield say when he took over the bench from his predecessor, former Judge Rusty Hight, that the “Docket was spinning out of control” is hearing a Judge that has gone out of his way to stay out of politics and stay away from criticizing the man he trounced in the 2010 election. We don’t know why he has all of a sudden spoken out - perhaps it is the frustration that goes along with all of the hours and hours trying to catch the docket up or maybe the difficult decisions Republicans have had to make to balance the budget because of Democratic party leadership. Whatever it is, his statements confirm what Liberty Dispatch has reported for years.
When Morefield took office in January 2011, he inherited a 17-page criminal docket and a five-page arraignment docket from Democrat Rusty Hight. In addition, before his last day Hight moved almost the entire law library from the judge’s quarters to the offices of Zeb Zbanek and Richard Baker (both longtime Democrats0. Despite the backlog of cases in his court and the stolen books, Morefield’s response was to simply roll up his sleeves and get to work, a refreshing change from his predecessor.
The docket problem hinged greatly on the prosecution, which includes District Attorney Mike Little (a longtime Democrat) and the young man he is pushing voters to elect to replace him, Logan Pickett. The District Attorney and all of his assistants, were being given cases, but they were not moving them through the courts quickly, and no judicial pressure was applied by Hight to budge the cases. Some cases were in excess of four years. Recently, we have seen where Little and Pickett have tried to focus the media on how quick and efficient Logan Pickett has been in the last few weeks, but despite them settling cases out of court, Pickett and Little have to be a big part of the reason Morefield has hade to work so hard to get his court’s docket caught up.
“The only pressure I could put was on the prosecution side,” said Morefield. “The bottom line is we tried 18 criminal jury trials in 2011. These were some of the oldest cases on the docket, including some for continuous sexual assault of a child.”
Liberty Dispatch once again points back to the voters’ decisions in 2010 and the choices they made in electing Judges Morefield, Cain, and Chambers as the foundation for a new era in cooperation and a new commitment to taking care of the people’s money and the precious business of democracy.
Judge Morefield is not a politician and has been a great example of someone who simply keeps his commitment to doing an excellent job and expects others to do the same. It is doubtful anyone will hear it come from Judge Morefield’s lips, but the black robes and gavel of a District Judge who is serious about making the justice system work helps make everyone around him get up out of bed and get to work on time and take care of business.
In a public meeting in Cleveland, the audience listening to Judge Morefield speak got to hear from the youngest in the D.A.’s office, Logan Pickett, as he interrupted the Judge with: “The state is ready, Judge.”

To answer a post that was from Anonymous (Scared of Reprisals by Pafford). This person listed several things that were clearly unfair and just wrong. Speculation or rumors is not a way to conduct business and the allegations of misconduct by this person are unjustified and unproven. I understand that we are at an election year and people will point finger after finger at opponents. Lets please act like adults and make adult decisions before making uneducated statements. I am neither for Constable Pafford or against him, I just can't stand by and watch these type of allegations continue. This letter was clearly written in support of Robby Thornton and thats fine but do not make such ridiculous comments with no backing or proof.
Lets clarify some things Mr. Anonymous, Constable Pafford of Pct 4 has allowed a Deputy to patrol U.S. 59, its no secret, there have been press releases on the cases; so Constable Pafford is clearly not hiding it. This type of proactive enforcement is conducted throughout this country and practiced amongst many Constable Offices in Texas. Instead of people finding a reason to complain about it, they should find a reason to praise the efforts of this Deputy and the Constables Office. Taking large amounts of drugs off the street is something that the citizens of this county should be proud of. It does not matter where it was done, it only matters that it was stopped from getting to its destination, which could have been our county or into the hands of our children. I applaud Pct 4 for having the willingness to pursue criminals actively using our roadways in the county. I have personally seen many Pct 4 deputies in the Dayton area stopping vehicles and enforcing the laws of the state. I am proud to see a Constables office that is not just serving civil process but that is attacking crime as well. It is a myth that Constables can only serve civil process. I ask you, is that what you want in your area? Or would you prefer a Constable that is proactive, fighting crime, and at the same time serving all civil/criminal process required by his office.
Lets touch some on the Reserve Deputies in Pct 4. Reserves are non-paid help for the Pct and many at Pct 4 are very well trained, educated, and with many years experience in law enforcement. So we are complaining about Constable Pafford allowing 1 reserve Deputy (a rogue deputy), out of all reserve deputies in the entire office, to conduct criminal interdiction on U.S. 59. So we are calling this Deputy a "rogue Deputy" because he did a good job? Really? So, lets begin to critize and name call the law enforcement officers that actually work in this county and run them all off and lets see what we will be left with. I also have personal knowledge that these Deputies don't just work U.S. 59 but also work many areas in Dayton, Highway 90, 146, 321, and 1960. It is a general fact that more quantities of narcotics move north from Houston on U.S. 59 than any other road in the entire county. Law Enforcement officers have the duty to protect and stop criminal activity. Yes, Pct 6 has this area as well as Cleveland but legally so does Pct 4. Let me explain
According to Texas state law and Texas Attorney General’s Opinion GA-0189, Constables have county-wide jurisdiction involving traffic enforcement and serving of any criminal or civil process. This means that Constables, who are peace officer in the state, have criminal and civil jurisdiction anywhere in the county that they are employed in. This should sum up your complaint about Pct 4 being out of their jurisdiction.
I see that Constable Pafford has done some great things that other departments have yet to accomplish and that is "Work". Allowing his people to go out and work as law enforcement officers is crucial with the protection of the citizens of the county. I have seen that Constable Pafford has been awarded a grant that will fund the purchase of new 800 mhz radios for his Deputies and in-car video cameras for their patrol vehicles. This allows for a more responsive Constables Office and again, something to be proud of. This was not given to them merely because they wanted it but because work was done to receive the grant. Many agencies throughout the state were in competition for this grant and only so many were awarded with the money and Pct 4 was awarded it, so applause again for Pct 4.
Lets begin to think outside the box a little and stop finding such small things to complain about. I truly see a mess among the law enforcement agencies in this county and commend Constable Pafford for having Deputies that actually work. I wish the best of luck to all candidates that are running for Pct 4 but lets not make lies up to win, lets pick the person that is right for the job. CEC guard pleads guilty to smuggling drugs into Liberty County facility
A Community and Education Centers guard has plead guilty to smuggling drugs into the Liberty County Jail, according to a story in the Cleveland Advocate ("Liberty County jailer guilty of smuggling drugs," October 18th).
"James Allen Roach pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield on Tuesday, Oct. 18, to attempting to provide a federal inmate with a prohibited object.
According to information presented in court, on Feb. 24, 2011, Roach, a correctional officer for the Liberty County Community Education Center (CEC), was arrested for arranging to deliver marijuana and tobacco into the Liberty County CEC to a federal inmate in exchange for money. Roach was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 2, 2011 and charged with federal violations."
This is not the first time that CEC's Liberty County Jail has had problems. Earlier this year, the facility failed its Texas Commission on Jail Standards inspection for multiple violations. The Warden Timothy New, Sheriff Henry Patterson's buddy wasn't even licensed at the Jail facility in Liberty, Texas for years- he was not licensed as a jailer at the time of multiple torts and civil rights violations committed by him and his leadership at CEC against prisoners. THE REAL THING VS. THE RINO

RINO means Republican In Name Only and if a name is mean to describe someone, we could find no simple short word to tell Chambers County Republican primary voters about Richard Baker. While Baker’s opponent is a good conservative attorney with an excellent legal background to fill the vacant District Judge’s bench of the Honorable Judge Carroll Wilborne, Baker has been an antagonist to conservatives and Republicans his whole life.
Baker’s association with the Godfather of Democratic politics in Liberty County is as long as his career in law. Baker has the kind of Democrat credentials that would recommend him to be the Democrat Party Chairman of Texas, not a candidate in a Republican primary.
Baker has demeaned and made fun of and tried to beat down Republicans his entire adult life. He is only running as a Republican because he has to if he wants to hold an elected position in this part of Texas. Furthermore, Baker is used to having a near family-like relationship to at least one of the Judge’s sitting on the bench and with the death of the Democrat party he no longer has that advantage (so why not run for office).

Following redistricting, Mr. Bradley’s district grew to include 1.7 million constituents in Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, Sabine, San Augustine and Tyler counties.
SHOULD HENRY LOOK IN THE MIRROR
More and more evidence points to a Henry Patterson led sheriff’s department that has spent countless hours and an unimaginable amounts of money investigating itself and other employees within the local criminal justice system. Three extremely long years and one month of rarely hearing a word from the man we elected sheriff, but hearing way too much about the problems he is either causing or he is unable to solve within his department.
What smells a great deal like part two of the Joe Warren debacle surfaced yesterday as we all had a chance to get ill over the idea that Patterson’s infamous rogue investigators have chased the escapades of Chip Fairchild out of the sheriff’s department and now through the phone lines of the Liberty Police Department. Liberty Dispatch has heard troubling reports about Chip, Terry, and Russell Fairchild for years now and we have no intention of defending him. But we will defend the taxpayer if this is exposes us to needless expenses and possible lawsuits.
The one thing we can determine from yesterday’s news is that Robert Valdez and the Outsiders are still looking for criminals. But in whose name are they doing this work? The taxpayer would benefit by an audit of Sheriff Henry Patterson’s slush fund so it can be determined whether or not the Outsiders rogue investigations are being paid for with taxpayer money. That is important for accountability purposes and for legal reasons since they have bragged about investigations long before they had claims to be an internet blog covering the news. But it also has importance because these people have sent out an estimated 250 Open Records Requests. If they are working for the sheriff and causing the employees of different local government departments to spend thousands of hours responding to all of these requests then Patterson needs to be held accountable.
An effective sheriff’s department works with the D.A. and the County Attorney and other departments and seldom if ever has to use the Open Records Act within their own local justice system. Patterson needs to explain to the public why he has to do things in such an unconventional matter. Look at the recent past. He hires people like Steve Green and for more than two years has Green hold his thumb on the necks of many of the deputies as he searches for inappropriate behavior in the department. Green’s less than encouraging personality wears the morale of the department down but the eyes of the top brass in the sheriff’s department continue to focus inward looking for but never reporting any internal affairs problems. After a couple of years Patterson boots Fairchild from the sheriff’s department to a few blocks down the road at the Liberty Police Department. Not long afterward, Terry Fairchild, Chip’s wife, goes from the sheriff’s department to the D.A.’s office.
At the same time all of that was going on, Liberty Dispatch was listening to one of Henry’s people we sometimes refer to as “Chatterbox” and he was opining about Henry Patterson having had Steve Green under surveillance for years. So Green is being paid to watch deputies the sheriff does not trust and Green himself is being watched by others being paid to watch him. And we surmise Sheriff Patterson feels he can’t trust the D.A. or the County Attorney or the District Judges because at one time or another Chatterbox has intimated that they are all under the watchful eye of the Outsiders.
Liberty Dispatch has been the chief advocate for a thorough and complete investigation of Chip and Terry and Russell, but we have also been the most outspoken critics of the Outsiders. If this is going to be another bungled unprofessional investigation done mostly by people who the public can not even see a picture of, much less know how much they are being paid and if they are indeed properly licensed to do this kind of work, then please spare us the drama.
Sheriff Patterson seems to have unsuccessfully looked for crimes and misbehavior within his department. It is time to have someone else take care of the Fairchild problem while an investigation of Henry Patterson and the Outsiders is done. Both investigations it would seem are in the public interests. The public deserves a sheriff who is effective and who does not hire one set of eyeballs to watch another set of eyeballs that is watching another set of eyeballs in an endless circle of suspicion with no conclusion in sight.
Perhaps if Henry looks in the mirror he will find the person that is most responsible for the misuse of public funds and the person the most inhibiting the work of the sheriff’s department more than any other person.

CEC (Community Education Centers) Inc. has a long history in Liberty County of abusing prisoners, conspiracy, selling contraband in the jail, sexually assaulting prisoners, taking bribes, official oppression, denying medical attention, lawsuit after lawsuit after lawsuit, denial of water, feces and urine in the food and drink given to prisoners, rancid and rotten food, not feeding prisoners even a minimum amount of food to keep them from getting sick- and they want more money… something has to give.
Also at work or a lack thereof... is current Liberty County Sheriff Henry Patterson who refuses to take control, oversight or responsibility for the people’s lives who reside under the Liberty County Taxpayer’s roof in his building. His close buddy Jail Warden Timothy New is an abomination in his callous disregard for even the minimum amount of human rights.
In steps Liberty County Judge Craig McNair… he surveys the sum total of all the human rights violations, the lawsuits and the abuses. Wisely he hires a very reputable local attorney named Mr. Jay Arnold ESQ. and asks him to investigate possible CHANGE, positive CHANGE. People… it takes strong resolve to take action and not sit idly by like generation after generation of Democrat of Liberty County past. Judge Craig McNair is going to get an "independent" legal and ethical evaluation of what’s going on over at the jail.
Liberty County Judge Craig McNair has courage- the kind of courage it takes to make positive change and he deserves our full support. Mark this date; Judge McNair continues to be a credit to Liberty County and the Republican Party.

I have noticed when the Outsiders move their mouth (or their mouse) I can almost win a sure bet that there is not much truth to what they are saying. One of the most incredible lies they are promoting is found in the annoying habit they have developed of leaving the people they are communicating with the idea that most local officials are happy they are here and are cooperating with them. Other than Henry Patterson, the soon-to-be former county sheriff, I think every official great and small would love to see them return to where they came from.
The most recent evidence of that is the challenge the city of Liberty is paying the legal bill for to keep Robert Valdez a/k/a “Cheech” and Eddie Shauberger a/k/a “Chong” from looking at records they feel no one has any right to see via the Open Records Act. But there are more examples in the past and unfortunately many more in the future.

IS COMMISSIONER FONTENOT SEARCHING FOR SAVINGS?
There is nothing like a political drama where a politician tries to grandstand to make himself look like he is doing his work like the Commissioner Todd Fontenot has given himself raise after raise. He has borrowed and borrowed and spent and spent all in the taxpayers’ names and on the taxpayers’ bill. But as the election nears, Liberty Dispatch has been waiting for Commissioner Fontenot to find a place to take a “conservative” stand and get some attention for it. He found it in the latest Commissioners’ court meeting.
In the middle of a budget crisis, Fontenot wanted to build a new barn for his precinct and he hoped taxpayers would forget he was warned in public meeting several years ago that the redistricting he was pushing would spread his precinct out in a direction that would cause him to want a new barn. But Fontenot is a consistently big spend and borrow liberal Democrat and he only worries about seeming conservative in an election year. Well it is an election year ……. now Fontenot is concerned that the county could spend a maximum of $2,000 to have an outside attorney form a cost benefit analysis of what we should do with the county jail.
Fontenot was the lone vote in trying to take the politics out of the decision making about who should run the jails (CEC or a new company or the county sheriff). The decision involves the nearly $4 million dollars taxpayers pay annually to run the county jail, and Fontenot wants to appear to be concerned that an attorney could charge taxpayers as much as two grand. But is Fontenot really that concerned about saving money and unconcerned about politics?
The answer is an unqualified “NO”! If he were, Fontenot could save over twenty thousand dollars in salary and benefits by doing away with the position Connie Paintsil holds under the protective wing of Fontenot. If phone records were reviewed taxpayers would find that Fontenot is benefiting politically from Paintsil receiving a check from the county. Paintsil spends a great deal of time on the phone organizing the politics she and Fontenot have in common and another large hunk of time talking with people about her church functions. The amount of time she spends doing something makes the courthouse run more efficiently is absurd. Not only should Paintsil be removed, the position needs to be eliminated all together.

He needs to ask for people’s vote by telling them his biggest single accomplishment is that he raised the commissioners’ salaries up to what he considers it should be. And if he really wants to be honest he can tell them he will continue to raise it if elected another four years. If he has changed and he truly wants to join the majority of people in this community, he needs to eliminate jobs that are not needed.

Sheriff Henry Patterson refuses to provide accounting
Liberty Dispatch has been given information that Liberty County Sheriff Henry Patterson has used his seized and asset forfeiture funds (slush fund) in an illegal manner. First hand information is that Sheriff Patterson is paying a local cult called "The Outsiders" money from LCSO to fund attacks on political opponents and for illegal investigations as well as his soft money campaign expenditures.
After repeated records act request concerning the LCSO seized and asset forfeiture funds and an accounting thereof, Henry Patterson refuses to turn over records.

SIGNS USUALLY FAVOR THE INCUMBENT

Patterson’s political team has proclaimed they will have all the money they want to buy political signs, last minute robo calls, and political mailers to paint a good picture of their candidate and a sinister one of their opponents. They have scored their first, and what very well could be their last victory, in this race. The “Re-elect Henry Patterson signs are far and away more like what professional political handlers would dictate to a candidate. On the other hand, Bobby Rader, Patterson’s chief opposition, has no political handlers and his signs do not follow the rules the pros tell you work best.
Patterson’s signs “use a multi-color presentation making certain nothing is as large as the candidate’s name”. Rader’s signs include a picture that reduced the size of his print and break several of the known ways to advertise a candidate best. Patterson one, Rader zero.
But these kinds of technical political campaign nuances from the so-called experts may not apply. Henry Patterson’s name appearing large and bright and beautiful may remind voters of the years of absentee “sheriffing” Patterson has put in. it may remind voters of all of the screw-up outside the county personnel he has brought into our community.
THE OTHER CARPETBAGGER HAS ARRIVED
The predicted carpetbag candidacy of James Farmer has been confirmed for all to see now that the list of candidates signing up for office is official. The fifty-seven year old struggling lawyer from southwest Houston is part of a comprehensive strategy by the group Sheriff Henry Patterson recruited to come into Liberty and start his own good ole boy system.
After seeing James Farmer’s bio, voters will be hard pressed to even consider voting for him. Bankruptcies, home repossession, and other signs of failures and instability only add to the concerns this community should have over a man running for Liberty County Attorney who is still yet to spend a night in the garage apartment he rented several months ago and who has not worked one minute in the Liberty County courthouse.
Those who read this website may remember “Chatterbox’ and “Fuddy” and “Sheriff Henry” were all calculating this summer that Farmer would be an acceptable alternative to District Attorney Mike Little. Farmer was going to be their weapon to takeover the head prosecutor’s job and build their own little universe right here in Liberty County. What could stop them if they had the Sheriff, the D.A., and they had the political cleverness to place new judges, their judges, in office in 2013?
But Mike Little announced he was retiring and subsequently James farmer announced a change in his original announcement. He changed to running for County Attorney and at least appears to have dropped his plans to run for D.A.
But what is the plan these days? It may be that Patterson the Outsiders figured Liberty Dispatch and others would continue to express our disappointment in incumbent County Attorney Wes Hinch and the unknown Houstonian with a common name like “Farmer” would have at least a slim chance of beating him. If so, we would like to make it clear now that our disappointment in Mr. Hinch is birthed out of a very high regard for his family and, in the case of at least one among us, a personal friendship (strained as it is because of politics). We think he could be a great County Attorney and we want him to start being one. We know Mr. Hinch, though he may still need lessons in both humility and listening skills, is not dangerous or harmful like Patterson and the cult-like Outsiders. More than that, we know if Mr. Hinch will take a deep breath and meet with most of our newly elected public officials with an open ear, he can play a vital role in completing the improvements they (and the voters) started in 2008. Electing Farmer, on the other hand, will be like starting over again. Starting a good ole boy network with all of the pent up anger from people like Outsider Eddie Shauberger and all of the goofiness and dreams of grandeur of the entire cult is not what most voters have in mind.
So what will these people do when they realize Wes Hinch will walk back into office because nobody is with them on replacing him with James Farmer? Will the brain trust/political experts Henry Patterson has in his camp team with the millionaire supporters they brag about having and use the quirkiness the courts have injected in this election? In other words, will they withdraw Farmer by the deadline this unusual election cycle has created and then have him sign up to run for D.A.? They might have hoped we would support Farmer and mimic their misleading information about him in an effort to beat Wes Hinch. They may have calculated that they could use any positive things we said about Farmer when he was signed up to run as County Attorney as they switch him to the D.A. race. It won’t happen however. Farmer is as much or more of a carpetbagger as the Morrison man that ran in the last County judge’s race. He is not from here. He has a secret past with secret relationships that are not good for Liberty County.
We have seen Sheriff Patterson recruit and install rejects from Harris County in the highest positions in the sheriff’s department. One could argue to avoid the negative effects of local cliques and friendships on our justice system, people from outside the county are the best people to turn to. But it is a hollow argument when bragging about wealthy people buying the races and spouting off about secret investigation to bury political enemies. Migrating your own clique or cult or good ole boy system into Liberty County Sheriff Patterson is not a step forward, it is a leap backwards.
A step forward would be revealing how the assets in Patterson’s slush fund have been allocated. A step forward would be opening up those records so taxpayers can see if anyone in his family or anyone in his political team is being paid by us.
Oh yes, Henry Patterson’s people selected beautiful signs. We believe they will design beautiful last minute attack ads too. But that little bitty picture on Rader’s sign – the one experts say he should have left off and saved the space to make his name bigger – it is the face of a known public servant that is more than qualified and more than a proven hard worker. It is the face that could complete the missing pieces to having a full slate of public officials working together for the taxpayers instead of their own selfish interests.

TIME TO STAND UP
Liberty Dispatch has been trying to UNspin the local news for years now. The local media has reported, or not reported, news in a manner in which they chose who the winners and losers were in local politics. We simply have given voice to a silent majority. We don’t pretend to be neutral as the rest of the media does and we don’t ask that you agree with us on everything, we just ask that you read other thoughts and ideas and unasked questions. We offer politicians and opportunity to answer questions WE THE PEOPLE are already asking as Liberty Dispatch gives voice to those ignored by a very liberal media.
TIME magazine’s recent cover shows you that our local media has some big and powerful allies. Liberty County voters are poised to send TIME and the people who would continue to try and spend our way out of a recession a strong message in November 2012.
With what is going on in Liberty County now voters who would not normally agree or side with us find an outside antagonist that will put almost all of us in agreement or the primaries. Though the infamous Outsiders are playing mind games with the few who will even consider what they say, their effort to compliment and posture as “pro law enforcement” is laughable to most. They act like they are working with our justice system, but in reality their efforts are to build a rogue force to circumvent the deputies and judges and police local taxpayers have hired to serve this community. The Outsiders will never find enough ignorant people that have read about “Outsider investigations” to think that these people are loved by our local law enforcement.
If the Outsiders could they would have a picture of Patterson on the cover asking why people who want Bobby Rader as the next sheriff are so stupid. The questions anyone that is not sure about this whole matter should ask is why when you pull a deputy or a judge or almost anyone in the courthouse to the side, you hear how we need a new sheriff. Patterson has rescued a handful of law officers that were in trouble in other counties to be his upper management and they of course are his supporters, but what taxpayer supported hiring these rejects?
The 2012 primary will give us all an opportunity to relieve Patterson from a job he will surely get in trouble in if he keeps it and it will give us an opportunity to show the world that large numbers of common sense hard working Texans are only fired up by “news reports” that point us to vote to support failed policies.

Dear Liberty Dispatch,
Everyone on this news site is talking about the Patterson, Rader and Cox, match up for Sheriff in the April 3rd, Republican Primary and I will admit we need a Drastic Change in leadership at the Department in November/2012. As usual no candidates from the Dayton Area, in that race, but Dayton area have an important race of its own, for Constable Pct 4. The Incumbent Pafford, in 2008, swept Charles Martin out of the job, because of the Obama Vote. Republican or Democrat, never heard a negative word about Constable Martin, and for several years he had no Deputy to help carry of the largest money generating Pct. by the JP and Constable, for Liberty County. For four (4) years, we have had a Constable, that used the Constable Pct 4, as an extra job and relied on his Deputy as the Office Manager and Bailiff for Judge Graves.
Constable Pafford is allowing reserve officers, under him to patrol, Hwy 59, not being in a coalition and then sending Press Releases of arrests, one end of Dec/11 and one in first week of January. The Press Releases have been sent to Cleveland Advocate and i-dineout and maybe this site. Why is my taxes going to Patrol as a rogue cop, in a area, 25+ miles out of jurisdiction, when TDPS, Cleveland PD, Constable Pct 6 and Sheriff's Department, has jurisdiction of that Hwy, not Pct 4 from Dayton Area.
Judge Graves spends a lot of time on the bench, with the heavy case load. No cases are decided in his office as done in the past years. Constable Pafford has worked around Liberty County, but anyone that knows former Constable Jimmy Belt, what kind of officer he was and how his employment ended under Jimmy Belt.
Early voting in 2008 was a ~1,000 votes ahead for Republican candidates in the General Election. I was rumored that the new constable may have to be replaced within 6 months, due to his past record in Liberty County. He had his job and a full-time Deputy and flew under the Radar, for 3 years, but 75% of sure voters know nothing about the Constable of Pct 4. This Primary Election, he has two opponents, one has law enforcement experience, but does not seem to be campaigning. The other candidate, who is in his a current Officer and who was educated in the DISD, has worked in Liberty County for 25 straight years (Kenefick as Chief, Sheriff’s Department & Dayton) with no disciplinary on his record and has worked the last 10+ years, for Dayton and has a Master Peace Officer’s License from the State of Texas. “Robby Thornton“, if elected, will terminate employment as a Corporal for Dayton and will be your Full-Time Constable in Pct 4. It is time that we quit paying our Constables to use the position at a part-time job, taking his Deputy off the street, serving papers, assisting other Agencies and working traffic, You have the Final say in a couple of months on April 3rd, in the Republican Primary. The choice should be clear, if you know “Robby” Thornton.

PATTERSON: A STAR IS WORN
When Sheriff Patterson took office in January of 2009 he had many of the same problems all of the newly elected officials had. He had to deal with years and years of Democrats like Melvin Hunt and Todd Fontenot spending and borrowing money like Washington liberals. He had budget deficits caused by his predecessor and hours and hours of unpaid overtime accrued by his department. Of all the negative and inept things you may have heard about our first term sheriff, what he did stands in such sharp contrast stands out from the way Republicans have clamped down on spending as one of the worst of his administration’s actions.
While Patterson was pulling the people that we pay to protect us off of the street, he was spending his time planning the debut of a star of his own choosing. That is right, to save money and be able to balance the books on all of the overtime his predecessor delayed payment on, he just left this community with inadequate protection. Then simultaneously he spent thousands and thousands of taxpayer dollars re-designing the the department’s star logo, stationary and badge.
Patterson it seems takes every effort to disassociate himself from the DPS and he did not like that the Liberty County Sheriff’s department he inherited from Greg Arthur had as the symbol of their association a star that looked like the one that closely resembled the DPS star.
Those kinds of decisions may seem small but they almost always involve big money. That star was not just pinned to every deputy in the department, it was on all of the cars, all of the stationery, and on just about everything representing the sheriff’s department. And at a time when we needed money to keep deputies patrolling our community, Henry Patterson wanted to make his mark on the department. He wanted a new star.
Now voters will have an opportunity to elect a new sheriff. We will soon have an opportunity to elect someone who is more interested in getting the job done than attacking other public officials and trying to make himself look good by making them look bad. We will soon have an opportunity to elect someone who is interested in the helping the men and women behind the badges look good by providing good leadership rather than a different shaped star or object.
Farmer's Fight
(01/13/2012 Liberty, Texas) In anticipation of Henry Patterson and his political team/quasi rogue investigators trying to give traction to their candidate for one of the public prosecutor positions, we decided early on at Liberty Dispatch that though we would gather as much intelligence as we could about “The Outsiders”, we would also inform certain public officials of some of their plans early on. We did this so they could not make up some cock and bull story.
We also chose Richard Pegues to be our liaison with the Outsiders. We did this for several reasons. First, it was evident to us that Eddie Shauberger was no longer focused on trying to elect Republicans or better conservatives or any other of our original goals. His goals had changed to save his rear at all cost. He was more concerned about his legal troubles and about building some kind of political hit team run through Sheriff Henry Patterson and whoever else they could add in the next election. Second, Richard has no legal problems, has not sought any paid elected position, and is well known for having one goal (electing the best Republicans that can be found and giving them the political support so they can be left alone to do their jobs).
With the evil twist and spin and diabolical plot of the outsiders in mind, Pegues left an e-mail trail clearly telling these people to go jump in the lake early on. The e-mail trail makes it clear that it is Eddie Shauberger whose ambitions cause him, and him alone to slobber all over any power he can access through Henry Patterson and the Outsiders to save himself.
Pegues was pushed by Shauberger to meet with these people under the guise of “how helpful they could be to getting Republicans elected”. Pegues met with them and was asked to help find an apartment for a friend of Henry Patterson’s who would begin taking cases in the Liberty County courthouse in May of 2011 in hopes of possibly running to defeat or remove District Attorney Mike Little. It was Shauberger’s idea that Farmer could either run against Mike Little or remove Mike Little via a petition from office so that Farmer could be appointed.
Subsequently, Farmer has not, to our knowledge, taken one case in the local courthouse. Neither has he spent one night in the apartment he rented. In fact, our readers have suggested there is not one piece of furniture, not one dish, and not one shred of evidence anyone lives in the apartment James Farmer is claiming as his residence.
“Residence is considered ‘a state of mind’ by some courts”, according to a statement by Richard Pegues. “I told these people when they pointed that out that it did not make a difference, Liberty County would not vote for people who were not part of this community and I told them Farmer had way too much personal baggage to run for office anywhere. I also made sure to tell a few public officials about them months ago just in case Eddie started projecting his crazy plans off on me like he has Ray Akins,” Pegues continued. “Eddie has taken his gift of gab and abused one person after another. Knowing he leaves a trail of destruction, I tried to stay clear of this deal he has with the people Patterson has brought to Liberty County.”
Pegues went on to point out that Shauberger was plotting something long before he knew anything about it and that Shauberger became very angry and unreasonable the minute he heard Bobby Rader was running for sheriff.

Who is James D. Farmer? According to public information he and his addresses are associated with "Outsider" Cult leader Clifford “Fuddy” William- off the books non-licensed under the table investigator for Liberty County Sheriff Henry Patterson. Farmer has been introduced as an “Outsider Cult Leader” according to firsthand accounts.
In regard to the original question about who James Farmer is... it could be answered with him being a “scam artist” along with his cohort Clifford “Fuddy” William. In a scheme to defraud Liberty County voters, Farmer rented an upstairs apartment on Cos Street in Liberty, Texas almost six months ago of which he has never spent one day or night. Immediately after he rented this scam shell address, he went down and changed his driver’s license over to the scam address. This is yet another scam of the "Outsider Cult" to pull a fast one on Liberty County just like they are doing with Sheriff Henry Patterson- to get someone elected for their own control of Liberty County. Most of the outsiders live in Montgomery County and even have people who have infiltrated the Montgomery County GOP.
