I grew up in a patriotic family that regarded military service as a personal honor and a duty. We never thought to question the judgment of our government regarding military conflicts or the justness thereof; it was simply our duty to serve in whatever capacity we were called upon to serve. My great uncle was a Major General in the United States Army and served throughout WW I and WW II, and was awarded four (4) Silver Stars. I remember wearing his dress uniform officer's cap while I was a child, and the pride I felt when I put that large cap on my small head. My father was in the United States Navy during all of WW II and served with distinction in the Pacific Theater. My family has always been fiercely patriotic; recognizing that we, as Americans, are exceptional people with exceptional abilities and great responsibilities.
At 19 years of age, I did not understand the politics of the Vietnam War, nor the rationale for America's involvement in the war. I was, however, keenly aware of the anti-war protests, the draft card burning episodes and the individuals who fled to Canada to avoid the draft. While I was aware of such, I did not understand how one could deny his country or question the judgment and decisions of our duly elected leaders. Rather than protest, burn or flee, I decided to join the Army and do my part. My decision may have been influenced by recent news that my best friend's brother had been killed in Vietnam.
In October 1969, I joined the Army. After basic training and AIT, I received orders for Vietnam and was subsequently stationed in various parts of South Vietnam during 1971 and 1972. The last few months of my service was at a place called "Khe Sahn" which had, prior to our arrival, been completely overrun by the North Vietnamese Regular Army during the Tet Offensive. Everyone who served in Vietnam and those who have studied the Vietnam War know "Khe Sahn" and the drama that unfolded there. We were the first to occupy the fire-base after its evacuation. The mission was on a volunteer basis and was named "Lam Son 719". The objective was to rebuild the airstrip at Khe Sahn and to provide support in the effort to cut the Ho Chi Mihn Trail that ran through Laos, and used to transport supplies to the Vietcong in the south. The event was pretty scary for a 20 year old soldier, and an experience that proved to be life altering in many respects. It was at Khe Sahn, in a dug-in position watching the perimeter at night for enemy penetration, that I experienced a spiritual awakening. I had always considered church as the place you attended every Sunday to be with God, and that if you were not in church you couldn't truly be with God. While peering through the darkness at shadowy figures along the perimeter (whether real or imaginary), I realized that God was right there with me in that dug-in position. Suddenly, the apprehension and fear was gone. His presence and comforting hand gave me the strength and assurance that not only would I survive the night; but I would return home to my family. I went to Vietnam a religious young man who attended church literally every time the door opened. I came home a spiritual man. I recently came across a saying that brings the distinction into focus. It goes like this: "a religious man is one who goes to church and thinks about fishing; a spiritual man is one who goes fishing and thinks about God".
I came back from Vietnam in May 1971 as a Sergeant, E-5, with the customary service medals and banners, including the Army Commendation Medal. Over the years, I have spoken little about my military service as my sacrifice was very small compared to many I knew and know. I am simply proud to have been able to serve, and am ready and willing to go again should my country call upon me. It was an honor and a privilege to be in the service of the greatest representative democracy the world has ever known. I hope that all Americans will, through their thoughts, deeds and prayers, honor our service men and women this Memorial Day, and that we remember to thank our living veterans for their service. When we see a young soldier, sailor or marine in uniform, we should take the time to shake his or her hand and thank them for their service.
It should never be forgotten that we owe our liberty to the selfless sacrifices of our service men and women.

Gulf Oil Spill Gives Big Oil Companies An Excuse To Raise Oil Prices
The Gulf Oil Spill of 2010 will not just be known as one of the worst oil spills in history, but it will be known as the oil spill which spiked oil prices in an hard-hit U.S. economy. As if we need another thing to deplete our already lightened wallets. It's bad enough many of us have to endure reduced work-hours, no raises for a year or two, and higher living expenses.
Were you getting used to paying less than $3 a gallon for oil for the past year and a half? Well get used to prices above $3 a gallon or much more this summer.
Big Oil companies have just the excuse they need to pillage us at the pumps. Will this mean that they charge upwards of $4 a gallon for oil? Probably not, but you can expect oil prices to surge well above $3 a gallon like they did after Hurricane Katrina.
Natural disasters that affect oil refineries are pornography for Oil Executives. When they can use a natural disaster or any disaster as an excuse to justify inflated prices they jump on the opportunity faster than you can say "oil."
Some would disagree with this school of thought. Forexyard.com-an online brokerage site, feels that the Gulf Oil Spill will have a limited impact on crude prices.
Oil prices soared today after an upbeat report in jobless claims and will only continue to do so now that the summer season is upon us. Added to that, the Gulf Oil Spill is feared to be five times worse than originally feared. According to The Coast Guard, a damaged BP oil well in the Gulf of Mexico is leaking about 5,000 barrels a day, five times more than previously estimated . At the current rate the spill will exceed the Exxon Valdez disaster by the third week of June. In other words, this is a bona fide cluster (you know what).
There are a significant amount of refineries in the Gulf of Mexico and any "hiccup" in the production causes prices to go up. At this point it's hard to say just how much prices will go up, but you would be naive to not expect them to be affected.
BP is spending $6 million a day to clean up this mess. Now, Shell is offering a helping hand.
We'll be offering them a helping hand soon at the pumps. Get in line!

Dear Cleveland Advocate/Dayton News,
Newspapers endorsing candidates is nothing unusual, but your newspapers have introduced several unique features to your endorsement for Governor of Texas.
First, most newspapers wait until the end of summer after the two nominees have aired out their differences. But I notice you have given Democrat Bill White a thumbs up already. I suspect you could say your thumbs up is not really an endorsement, but if you are politically savvy at all you know perception is reality; The phone call I got today was from a concerned voter who took your thumbs up as an endorsement.
Another really unique feature of your thumbing section is that you seem to place the most value on which candidate came to Liberty County first. Interesting priority, but as I sit here in front of my computer I have pictures of several Liberty Citizens standing by Governor Perry in the Mas Amigos on Main Street in downtown Liberty, Texas. Governor Perry stayed that night until he had visited with everyone and anyone that came. He posed for pictures. He sat at several different tables and had lengthy conversations with a variety of people. That visit is was the first of at least two visits to the city of Liberty alone. So according to your logic Bill White has some catching up to do. Oh and by the way Rick Perry didn't meet at Republican headquarters, he met where all voters would feel comfortable. Maybe Mayor White 's visit was really just for Democrats. but you might wait on giving him a thumb until he appeals to all of our citizens.
On the other hand I must give you some credit for being very courageous, According to recent elections your readers and the citizens of this county are a great deal more likely to vote for Rick Perry. Besides having voted for Perry in the past, statistics in Liberty County indicate a growing trend toward conservatives and a rejection of all Democrats running for statewide office. So your thumbs up could be a brave independent endorsement that goes against your own financial interest.
Buuut...... your endorsement could also show a bias by those who are in charge of the local papers who realize Perry is likely to win, but endorsing a much more liberal White may help local Democrats further down the ballot. For decades local Democrats have enjoyed and encouraged straight ticket voting, but now local Democratic Party leaders and their loyal media friends are doing anything an everything to discourage straight ticket voting I guess it could be coincidence that straight ticket voting n the last election favored local Republicans for the first time in over a century. Could your paper be thumbing White to stop a trend by voters of sending President bama a message by voting straight Republican?
Your paper is also unique in its political commentary in its practice of not leaving the name of the writer responsible for an editorial or opinion piece. Perhaps your admiration for Liberty Dispatch and other internet sites has influenced this,but I can't think of one reputable newspaper who would risk such a thing. Most papers are careful to have a name on these kinds of articles so they do not insult everyone who disagrees by leaving the impression that the entire staff and ownership holds the opinion expressed.
But undoubtedly that is the message you mean to convey. That The Dayton News and The Cleveland Advocate will forgo hearing the debates between the Democrat and Republican nominee for Governor and both papers will give a thumbs up to the Democrat early on. If the current Governor, who by the way holds the record for getting more Liberty County votes for Governor than any candidate for Governor in history, if he can prove he is a better candidate than Bill White we are sanding by and will let our readers know ....if he comes to Liberty County again.

THE PLAIN TRUTH ABOUT IMMIGRATION
With malice toward none, Liberty Dispatch thinks Republican Representative Tom McClintock' s opinion on immigration is correct and fair and one the United States can be proud of. Most Democrat Party lawmakers disagree. Rep. Tom McClintock gave the speech below in response to President Calderon's lecture to Congress. Given in the House Chamber, Washington, D.C. May 20, 2010.
M. Speaker:
I rise to take strong exception to the speech of the President of Mexico while in this chamber today.
The Mexican government has made it very clear for many years that it holds American sovereignty in contempt and President Calderon’s behavior as a guest of the Congress confirms and underscores this attitude.
It is highly inappropriate for the President of Mexico to lecture Americans on American immigration policy, just as it would be for Americans to lecture Mexico on its laws.
It is obvious that President Calderon does not understand the nature of America or the purpose of our immigration law.
Unlike Mexico’s immigration law -- which is brutally exclusionary -- the purpose of America’s law is not to keep people out. It is to assure that as people come to the United States, they do so with the intention of becoming Americans and of raising their children as Americans.
Unlike Mexico, our nation embraces immigration and what makes that possible is assimilation.
A century ago President Teddy Roosevelt put it this way. He said:
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
That is how we have built one great nation from the people of all the nations of the world.
The largest group of immigrants now comes from Mexico. A recent RAND study discovered that during most of the 20th Century, while our immigration laws were actually enforced, assimilation worked and made possible the swift attainment of the American dream for millions of immigrants seeking to escape conditions in Mexico.
That is the broader meaning of our nation’s motto, “E Pluribus Unum” – from many people, one people, the American people.
But there is now an element in our political structure that seeks to undermine that concept of “E Pluribus Unum.” It seeks to hyphenate Americans, to develop linguistic divisions, to assign rights and preferences based on race and ethnicity, and to elevate devotion to foreign ideologies and traditions, while at the same time denigrating American culture, American values and American founding principles.
In order to do so, they know that they have to stop the process of assimilation. In order to do that, they must undermine our immigration laws.
It is an outrage that a foreign head of state would appear in this chamber and actively seek to do so. And it is a disgrace that he would be cheered on from the left wing of the White House and by many Democrats in this Congress.
Arizona has not adopted a new immigration law. All it has done is to enforce existing law that President Obama refuses to enforce. It is hardly a radical policy to suggest that if an officer on a routine traffic stop encounters a driver with no driver’s license, no passport, and who doesn’t speak English, that maybe that individual might be here illegally.
And to those who say we must reform our immigration laws – I reply that we don’t need to reform them – we need to enforce them. Just as every other government does. Just as Mexico does.
Above all, this is a debate of, by and for the American people. If President Calderon wishes to participate in that debate, I invite him to obey our immigration laws, apply for citizenship, do what 600,000 LEGAL immigrants to our nation are doing right now, learn our history and our customs, and become an American. And then he will have every right to participate in that debate.
Until then, I would politely invite him to have the courtesy while a guest of this Congress to abide by the fundamental rules of diplomacy between civilized nations not to meddle in each other’s domestic debates.

COUNTY JUDGE AND COMMISSIONERS SHOULD MOVE FORWARD WITH OUR SUPPORT
Whether you were for or against its purchase, drive by the old Wal-Mart building in Liberty today and it is difficult not to consider the possibilities that such a large well located building could have. Continue on in to the city and drive by the courthouse and one is reminded of how messy the politics have become since County Judge Phil Fitzgerald, Commissioner Norman Brown and others decided to pursue purchasing the building and possibly consolidating county offices and the local hospital.
Ray Akins, along with others, stated publicly that the best use of this property could be county offices and an advanced trauma care facility for the county. He also went on to say, "If the taxpayers are going to be stuck with the Hospital District Taxing entity, we should use the money for the highest tech 21st century trauma care available." Akins went on to say, "The price paid for this property was not proportionate to the current real property market values, someone made off like a bandit."
All of that said, it is time to compartmentalize and to again move forward. Let the people that are unscrambling what has gone on in the courthouse do their work while we encourage public officials to do the best job they can possibly do for Liberty County. With that in mind, even Judge Fitzgerald's toughest critic must admit he is a good horse trader and may be the best county judge we have had in a long time to plan and negotiate what we ultimately do with the Wal-Mart building.
Those of us who critique public officials may ought to back off and give the County Judge some encouragement to finish what he started. His business experience and his ability to negotiate, coupled with the original vision for where the county could benefit by this building, makes for a good rationale to ask our leaders to make a priority of this project. Rather than let the building sit there unused and off of the tax rolls, go forward and see what happens.
As a taxpayer, we can't let the politics of the time limit the progress we can make for future generations. Norman Brown and Lee Groce are running for reelection as commissioners and we need to encourage them to deal with the reality of the fact that we, as a county, own this building and we want them to make the best use of it that is available.
In this area we might not be able to count on Groce if he is going to be a sourpuss because he voted against it. But Commissioner Brown has been dealing with trying to be creative and make the best use of resources since the first time he was elected seven years ago. Taxpayers should encourage Brown and Fitzgerald and the rest of the commissioners to explore the possibilities and to move forward.
This project is not necessarily a white elephant. It has great possibilities. In fact, years from now citizens may look back at this time and these men and be thankful for their forward thinking and their creative effort. Let's not waste this summer like the November election has some magical spell over progress, let's move forward...

Study shows broad support for Arizona migrant law
The controversial Arizona law passed last month requires state and local police, after making "lawful contact," to check the immigration status of anyone they reasonably suspect is in the country illegally, and arrest those who cannot prove it.
The report by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press (www.people-press.org) found that 59 percent of adults polled in a national survey gave their overall approval to the law, which opponents charge is unconstitutional and a mandate for racial profiling.
Seventy-three percent said they backed a measure requiring people to produce documents verifying their legal status if police ask for them, while 67 percent approve of allowing police to detain anyone who cannot verify that they are in the country legally.
The new law has pushed a debate over immigration to the fore in U.S. politics, and rebooted a drive by Obama and Senate Democrats to overhaul federal immigration laws -- although it is seen as a longshot before November congressional elections.
Obama supports a system allowing undocumented immigrants in good standing to pay a fine, learn English and become citizens. He also backs tightening border security and clamping down on employers that hire undocumented workers.
The survey, carried out among 994 adults -- found that only 25 percent supported Obama's handling of immigration policy, while more than twice as many -- 54 percent -- said they disapproved.
It found that Democrats are evenly split over the Arizona law -- which is set to come into effect at the end of July -- with 45 percent backing it and 46 percent saying they disapprove of it.
The measure, signed into law by Arizona's Republican Governor Jan Brewer on April 23, has triggered an international furor and unleashed legal challenges and calls for an economic boycott of the Grand Canyon state.

The report by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press (www.people-press.org) found that 59 percent of adults polled in a national survey gave their overall approval to the law, which opponents charge is unconstitutional and a mandate for racial profiling.
Seventy-three percent said they backed a measure requiring people to produce documents verifying their legal status if police ask for them, while 67 percent approve of allowing police to detain anyone who cannot verify that they are in the country legally.
The new law has pushed a debate over immigration to the fore in U.S. politics, and rebooted a drive by Obama and Senate Democrats to overhaul federal immigration laws -- although it is seen as a longshot before November congressional elections.
Obama supports a system allowing undocumented immigrants in good standing to pay a fine, learn English and become citizens. He also backs tightening border security and clamping down on employers that hire undocumented workers.
The survey, carried out among 994 adults -- found that only 25 percent supported Obama's handling of immigration policy, while more than twice as many -- 54 percent -- said they disapproved.
It found that Democrats are evenly split over the Arizona law -- which is set to come into effect at the end of July -- with 45 percent backing it and 46 percent saying they disapprove of it.
The measure, signed into law by Arizona's Republican Governor Jan Brewer on April 23, has triggered an international furor and unleashed legal challenges and calls for an economic boycott of the Grand Canyon state.

WHERE ARE THE DETAILS OF THE MURDER INVESTIGATION?
Dear Liberty Dispatch,
I am concerned that in the loudness of our political debates in this election year and in the near horror of watching our new President try to dismantle the building blocks that have made this country great, we have very possibly lost one of our citizens to a murder that has not been adequately investigated.
Several months ago a retired teacher was said to have suffocated and died in a fire located at Russell Fairchild's Hardin property. A rumor alleged that the retired teacher had just one week before signed over much of what he had accumulated in life to Chip and Russell Fairchild. With so much other news going on at that time I am not sure our community ever heard whether this was true or not. I do not remember hearing any reason for such a transfer of wealth.
A more recent rumor is that though Chip Fairchld is now working for the Liberty Police Department at a much lower wage, his significant and expensive remodeling of his house was just after the death of this teacher.
For the sake of the Sheriff's Department's and Chip and Russell Fairchild's reputation there should be an exhaustive investigation and published public findings about both the death and the transfer of any money. When a chief investigator or a former chief investigator for the Sheriff's Department is rumored to be connected to a death in any way, the public needs to know every rock was overturned and the results of the investigation should be public and specific. Not just "it was an accident" etc.
Due to Texas Ranger, Frank Huff and booted Liberty County Sheriff, Greg Arthur being so closely and personally tied to the Fairchild's- they have allegedly gotten away with murder and other crimes. It is easy to see why some people believe there are unanswered questions that the public deserves to hear an answer to.
Responsible investigators should not allow the Fairchilds to hide behind the thin blue line as cover for their crimes. Investigators should follow the money and tell us what they find. Why has Liberty Police Chief, Billy Tidwell allowed an alleged murder, Chip Fairchild work for him without an internal investigation? Does Chief Billy Tidwell think so little of the people in Liberty Texas as to allow an alleged murderer to run major crimes investigations in the area?

NO MAGIC LIPSTICK
Recently Chip Fairchild was spotted at Liberty County Democratic Party Headquarters; and his old boss, Greg Arthur was spotted at Liberty County Republican Headquarters. Normally these kinds of sightings may give credibility to rumors that these men are considering a run for Liberty County Sheriff in 2012, but neither party has some kind of magic lipstick to get these men past voters.
Greg Arthur and his controversial sidekick Chip Fairchild exited politics in a big way last election. For an incumbent and representatives of the status quo it was a devastating loss as even voters in their own neighborhood indicated they had had enough of them. After Arthur was drummed out of office by the people, it wasn't much later that Fairchild no longer had a locker at the department.
When 2012 comes around the voters are not anymore likely to forget all of the reasons Liberty County wanted a change than they would forget what a pig looked like if you splashed a little cologne and lipstick on it. The whole Harrelson scandal, the immoral behavior, and the use of office for political means is still fresh in many voters minds. People don't like to see their public officials constantly running around with different women other than their wives. And people don't want to hear repeated allegations that the leadership in law enforcement is breaking the law.
There is no magic lipstick. Even if Arthur wasn't going to be seventy years old soon. Even if Chip and his brother Russell Fairchild didn't have rumors swirling around them about all kinds of different allegations. There is no magic lipstick that covers politician who have thrown caution to the wind and ignored public opinion.
These two men who were shunned by voters may also be behind the negative publicity surrounding the new Sheriff a part of their efforts to reclaim power. The new Sheriff may need magic lipstick too if he doesn't accomplish the main thing people expect from a Sheriff - 'building public trust that leads to a feeling of security'. Sheriff Patterson's time may be running short,but if he made some key changes he could still gain the public trust.
The bottom line - some of the outspoken Republicans and some of the outspoken Democrats would surely spend much time and energy to make sure their party had a more electable nominee than Arthur or Fairchild. Patterson better make some positive changes or he too will find himself in need of magic lipstick when he faces the voters again.

FORMULA FOR VICTORY
It should surprise no one that politicians are always looking for a "formula" that will lead to victory The better the formula the less perfect the candidate has to be. The last Presidential election is an example of how well that can work. When Americans elected an inexperienced liberal to be Commander in Chief polls showed most Americans were conservative and valued experience in a candidate. It may be because experts have identified some little persuasive tricks that encourage voters to ignore or downplay their own internal warning system that candidates like this are able to win.
For years local Democrats have stuck with certain "ingredients" to their successful election formula. For instance, telling all of their candidates to buy FFA animals. Reardess if the candidate has been a penny pinching selfish hermit that has never done anything for the community, they can spend some of the money contributors gave them and spend it "generously" on a prize hog, and they wlll be seen by many as generous and comunity-oriented.
Another part of the "formula" many local politicians embrace (Democrats and Republicans nowadays) is the "cake and pie" strategy. When there are fundraisers, they tell candidates to buy a $100 cake or a $50 pie and to some voters you will be thought of as a wonderful person. Never mind that both parties tell their candidates that if you want people to talk about how wonderful you are you buy cakes or pies at public charity events (or you do one of the many other things prescribed in the formula).
Following the formula doesn't mean you are not philanthropic or that you are not good person, but it really tells the voters nothing about you. But some think it does. The Bible tells us about the kind of good works everyone sees us do here on earth and that you are praised for - the Bible says not to expect a reward in Heaven for those works and that it is better to do good works so no one knows you did them.
But this is politics and perception is reality to many. A candidate with very little money or an humble candidate that follows the scripture may struggle with this formula but then we may never elect someone who doesn't.
WE need public officials that do great things when no one is watching. Most of what they do we are not there to see how they conducted themselves. Integrity can not be bought or advertised. It must be something someone does because it is right even though no one may ever know if they did wrong.

MOTIVATIONS QUESTIONED
Buyer beware is what they say in the retail business when you may not be getting what you think you are. Liberty Dispatch has been warning voters of a simliar proposition to us as voters in Liberty County. But rather than ask readers to look at this election through our eyes, we want readers to think for themselves as you examine the political scene.
For months we have warned voters of behind the scenes manipulations by Democrats as C. T. "Rusty" Hight, Liz Beausoliel,Phil Fitzgerald, Zack Zbranek and others used Hight's connections to his father-in-law Lester Wisegerber(the Republican Party Chairman before his recent defeat) and their persuasiveness with Michelle Merendino. But today we want to ask readers to think about one question and come to their own conclusion without assuming what seems obvious to us - that Merendino (a Republican) was talked into running by Hight and Beausoliel and Zbranek (all staunc Democrats).
Here is the question: "Why did Michelle Merendino run for the 253rd District Judge's bench instead of the 75th District Judge's bench?
When Merendino decided to run as a Republican she had two district judgeships to consider. She could run in the 253rd and have a primary opponent who has won every election he as ever been in or she could run in the 75th and fill the request Republicans have had for years...candidates to change this seat to a Republican seat. She chose to run in the 253rd. Thank God for Mark Morefield, a well respected and very successful local attorney who decided that it was time for someone to challenge Democrats and run for this seat.
True, the race for the 253rd had party switcher Chap Cain in the Republican primary but in the 75th Rusty Hight initialy had no opponent. Merendino chose to run against one of the top vote getters in Liberty County...against someone who has been a judge for nearly two decades and who received votes from both sides of the political spectrum regardless of party affliation. She chose to run against Judge Cain and, from what we have seen and heard from her campaign, she chose to run against him offering very little to voters in the way of specifics as to why they shouldn't vote for the man they have voted for many times in the past. Why did she choose to run against the stronger of the two judges?
Despite the Republicans need for someone to run against Rusty Hight, Merendino passed on the opportunity. Instead she chose to run against a judge who has documented ethical shortcomings, such as the case he was reprimanded for changing a legal document in order to win in a child custody case. Meredino decided to run as a Republican against the only incumbent Democrat Judge to expose a scandal in the courthouse in our lifetimes. Why didn't Merendino run against the judge that has ethical question circling him like buzzards over roadkill?
Liberty Dispatch has been frustrated for years about strong ties to the Democrat Party among some of the leadership within the Republican Party. Almost everyone in this country can proudly claim they "vote for the man" not the party if that is their viewpoint, but there is an exception. Leadership within a party owes it to the public to work hard for the candidates from their party. If they do have someone they feel is unacceptabe sign up to run in their party, they should be open with their decision if they decide not to support them.
This all leads up to our parting question: "What kind of judges and what kind of county judge would participate in this kind of deception?"

CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER!
Congratulations to Linda Odom! Linda is now the Vice Chairman of the Liberty County Republican Party.
Linda and her husband Monty have been working in the Republican Party for almost two decades. Their dedication over the years to promoting pro-life issues and a smaller more financially responsible government has helped to build the Republican Party in this county from one that never won into a competitive option for voters. Linda's perspective as as a school teacher and a Mom have been invaluable through the years.
Congratulations to Linda's husband Monty also. Monty is a candidate for Justice of the Peace in the Cleveland area and is now on the Liberty Dispatch list recommending to non-liberal voters that he is the best candidate in that race. Monty is also a Pastor and a very highly thought of member of the Cleveland community. His reputation for honesty and hard work are among many of the reasons a vote for Monty Odom is a vote that you will always be proud of.
Besides the Odoms, congratulations to Charlotte Warner and her victory in the run-off for the Republican nomination for the Commissioner seat that is currently held by Lee Groce. JUDGE HIGHT’S CAMPAIGN MANAGER TO BECOME NEXT DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIRMAN?
Years ago, the local Republican Party was preparing to publicly question the then Liberty County Democratic Party Chairman John Archer’s eligibility to be the head of the majority party in the county because of his relationship to contracts concerning tax collection and the water district. Just days before a press release was going to be sent out by Republicans, Archer announced that Liz Beausoliel would be the new Democratic Party Chairman.
The Beausoliel’s are no stranger to active Republicans. Mark Beausoliel was Assistant County Attorney before running for County Attorney and losing to Tommy Chambers who later lost to Wes Hinch in the general elecion. And Liz Beausoliel is the person paid to manage the Liberty County Law Library and she has been the fearless campaign manager for District Judge C. T. “Rusty” Hight. In addition, Beausoliel is suspected (along with Hight and Zack Zbranek) to be the brain trust that decided to recruit Michelle Merendino to run as a Republican to punish Chap Cain for publicly exposing Democratic County Judge Phil Fitzgerald for the way he handled FEMA money and for running as a Republican.
For a short period of time, Liz Beausoliel served as Chairman before Archer’s wife, Nancy, returned the Chairmanship to the Archer household. Democrats and even some Republicans have noted that Nancy Archer’s leadership through this last election may give her claim to being the best Democratic Party Chairman Liberty County has had since Mary Beth Jamison. Under Nancy’s direction Democrats had the most unpopular national ticket voters have ever seen in Liberty County. Despite Barack Obama’s name at the top of the ballot, local Republicans only won two seats this last election. In Democrat circles Nancy Archer has taken many a bow for doing well under difficult circumstances.
Now rumors have started emerging about an encore as Chairman for Beausoliel, who showed flashes of brilliance as she steered Judge Hight to victory despite the last minute disclosure that, as a lawyer, Hight changed court documents to try and win a custody case and that he was caught and rebuked for his ethics. If Beausoliel becomes the next Chairman she would now inherit an entirely different political climate with the election victory of Andy McCreight as her counterpart in the Republican Party.
For the last four years, Nancy Archer enjoyed an unusually non-confrontational Republican Party whose leadership repeatedly campaigned by saying “it doesn’t matter whether you have a ‘D’ or an ‘R’ by your name.” But Republicans rejected Lester Ray Wisegerber in his bid for another term as Republican Party Chairman and it is thought to be because of that motto and his personal relationship to his son-in-law, Democrat District Judge Rusty Hight.

Her husband, Mark’s, defeat leaves him at a dead end politically unless he can revive his name through his wife and run years down the line. Dear Liberty Dispatch,
Thanks for filling us all in a little on the Kelly matter. We should all be willing to consider the proposition that he is innocent until proven guilty.
Sheriff Patterson is a different situation however. Though he appears to be innocent of breaking any laws, he is guilty of not handling this situation well and not doing his job.
As a Christian who wants the best for Henry and for the people of this county, I would say that leaves him two choices. Resign or do your job.

Sheriff Patterson is a different situation however. Though he appears to be innocent of breaking any laws, he is guilty of not handling this situation well and not doing his job.
As a Christian who wants the best for Henry and for the people of this county, I would say that leaves him two choices. Resign or do your job.
