Dear Liberty Dispatch,

Thanks for filling us all in a little on the Kelly matter. We should all be willing to consider the proposition that he is innocent until proven guilty.

Sheriff Patterson is a different situation however. Though he appears to be innocent of breaking any laws, he is guilty of not handling this situation well and not doing his job.

As a Christian who wants the best for Henry and for the people of this county, I would say that leaves him two choices. Resign or do your job.

Sincerely

(name taken out for obvious reasons)

Sheriff Patterson IS doing his job. He is adhering to the letter of the law regarding Captain Kelley's employment. Liberty County had been so long without a moral, ethical man in the office of Sheriff that the people fail to recognize how lucky the county is to have a man who can't be bought, seduced or black-mailed to do the will of the immoral majority.

Look I am on your side. I believe Henry is an ethical and moral man, but he has gone too far in trying to separate himself from past administrations. He is almost never at crime scenes. He may belive he can do his job without showing up or leading by example, but show me one Sheriff's department that is the same size that half of the officers have never met the Sheriff. Add to that Patterson, through his man Green, is so busy writing up almost the entire department, that they are all consumed with fear and anger rather than fighting crime. We can like Henry. We can admire his honesty and defend him against false charges. But we owe our friend the truth. Something has to change. I pray that God removes the spirit of fear from Henry and replaces it with sound ideas of how to bring this department to a higher standard.

If Patterson doesn't get energized he will get voted off the island in 2012. His personal friends must understand the rest of judge Sheriffs by their fruit. Not just their lack of morality.

I voted for Henry Patterson because I knew Liberty County needed to get rid of Greg Arthur. Now I will hope to vote for someone else so we can get rid of Henry Patterson. Arthur knew how to lock up crooks but not how to control his own demons. Patterson knows how to control himself, but is like a deer in the headlights on being Sheriff.

If Republicans will defend Patterson's shortcomings they are not much better than Democrats.

Hold the phone! The letter of the law? Go back and read your law again. Kelley could have and should have been put on administrative leave. I am a Henry Patterson fan, but I am no fan of Steve Green. Henry needs a second opinion on this kind of legal advise.

I am in 100% agreement with celebrating that Arthur and Fairchild are not in the sheriff's department any more.

Someone could make some money by making some "Where's Henry?" bumper stickers kind of like the "Where's Waldo" stuff we use to see.

You people need to leave Steve Greene alone. Just because he is making the Sheriff's staff tow the line unlike any Sheriff before Patterson, don't mean he is doing something wrong. The deputies need to suck it up and quit acting like a bunch of whinny sissy girls and do their job better. Just because Chip Fairchild and Billy Beer Bottle Tidwell run the Liberty PD fast and loose, dont mean the Liberty SO is going to act like a bunch of clowns. Tidwell hires murderers...

Maybe I'm missing something but, after reading the probable cause affidavit and search warrant, I do get it... What has Kelly done and furthermore, what has Patterson done in this regard? Appears to all be BS... "Very weak he said, she said case."

It appears the Gun Dealer at Sportsman's Supply in Humble is the real culprit here. Kelly and Patterson left guns with this alleged dirt bag for destruction and it was he who took it upon himself to sell the weapons instead...

I've read the comments on here. I've heard Henry's friends complain about i-dineout's constant beating up of the Sheriff. I would like to thank you Mr. Akins for presenting this whole thing with a great deal more balance than others have. The message I get for Patterson is we are behind you IF you are going forward. We are behind you IF you will interact more with the public and more with your department. We won't give you carte blanche or an endless amount of time however. We want you to get behind our people whi are running for office by being active and visible and positive.

Henry, you can not hide from this bunch and stay out of the public light. In order to do your job like it should be done, you have to be a public figure. You have to do what is right and to hell with this bunch at the Courthouse. This is why you were elected Sheriff of Liberty County. We were tired of all the rumors of the last Sheriffs regime. Now, get going Henry, if you expect to be our Sheriff next term.

What many in Liberty and Dayton don't realize is the palns our commissioner up here in Dayton has to put Royce Wheeler in as Sheriff. He is another Greg Arthur with lots of baggage. Nevertheless, Melvin Hunt takes every cnce he gets to smear Patterson and prepare the way for Wheeler.
