On 12/30/2011, Commissioners Melvin Hunt and Todd Fontenot orchestrated the "emergency" renewal of CEC as the Liberty County jail management company for sixty more days.
Instead of bringing in a new and responsible company, Melvin Hunt and Todd Fontenot signed an agreement to keep CEC as Liberty County's Jail Manager- and even increased the money Liberty County pays.
Additionally, there is a bid process which has been completely ignored and circumvented by Hunt and Fontenot.
CEC jail corporation has been plagued with prisoner civil rights violations, employee drug use, drugs and contraband in the Liberty County jail. Also sexual assaults of prisoners by jail personnel and alleged sexual harassment by the Warden himself against his underlings.
So what did commissioner Melvin Hunt and Todd Fontenot do for Liberty County? Did they help or harm? Based on all the lawsuits and crimes committed by CEC personnel and against prisoners, it would appear they put the people of Liberty County in jeopardy and probable continued harm.
Since Melvin Hunt and Todd Fontenot chose to extend the contract and increase the pay of CEC for the next sixty days, we plan to expose' the over dozen lawsuits and crimes centered around CEC. We will be looking at alleged sexual harassment of CEC employees by the CEC Warden and Sheriff Henry Patterson's connection and ignorance of all these problems going on under his nose.
Additionally, we will study how the County can save money and avoid all the legal problems associated with CEC and what its people have visited upon Liberty County.

you would think someone would say these jail companys are here to make money. duh why dont we operate our own jail and SAVE MONEY. i know there are several good officers at the sheriff dept that have jail admin expericence. one of them was a major for TDCJ.

Law didnt dictate Melvin Hunt doing this until there was a full vote. Melvin Hunt isnt the county Judge. There are contingencies in the contract for this sort of thing. Liberty County needs rid of CEC. We need LaSalle to come in and take over ASAP. Warden Timothy New need to go big time. This Warden is a catastrophe and a blight on Liberty County.

I agree 100% percent with the above post...The warden needs to go as he is a lot of the problem with the mismanagement of the facility...he shouldve been let go a long time ago with all his dirty deeds that everyone seems to ignore. Let the S.O run the jail and I'm sure things would turn out much better.
Henry Patterson can not manage a plate of scrambled eggs and toast without his Harris county people whispering which to eat first. How can he manage the jail?
I agree with the comments about our current sheriff. remember the bragging his people did because he protected the marijuana field overnight rather than prepare to catch the pot growers? He is either an idiot or he is in on some really bad stuff. No matter which one it is, he ain't the guy to manage the jail.the taxpayers will be forced to pay megabucks while Patterson is sheriff.
I agree with all these posts. The Warden needs to go and Melvin needs to go with him.

Henry Patterson would shut down the jail and send everyone home when he leaves everyday at 3:00

Warden Timothy New and Sheriff Henry Patterson are tied at the hip. You always see them together and even meeting up at the outsiders temple in moss hill. Whats up with that?
That dumb %ss Henry instead of making the Warden one of his outsiders should have kicked Warden New's @ss out of the jail.

How can two of the five people on Commissioners Court approve anything? Melvin Hunt and Todd Fontenot must have a scam going on with thier decision making deal' without the rest of Commisioners voting on this. It is just makes me wonder what,why,where,who and how much.

I will agree that changes need to be made with the jail, but I don't agree that the Sheriff (whoever is voted in) should be the one to take care of it. We need our LCSO out there in the county protecting us, they are already short handed and taking on the jail is just going to make it worse. The Sheriff has enough to do, if he is doing his job right, and the jail should not be under the LCSO. We need to go out and get a new contract with a new company.
Thats a dumb theory, don't you realize the sheriff's budget would increase to cover the management of the jail? What are you really saying, that even if Patterson had the jail budget for millions he couldn't manage that any better than he is now managing the sheriff's office? I think so..
