Cheney says Obama should apologize to Bush administration after al-Awlaki killing

Former Vice President Dick Cheney says that following the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki, President Obama owes the George W. Bush administration an apology.

Cheney, speaking on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday, offered support for the targeted killing by drone strike last week of the Yemeni-American radical cleric al-Awlaki, but he said that Obama now needs to reverse his past criticism of how the Bush administration interrogated suspected terrorists.

The Obama administration "in affect had said that we had walked away from our ideals or taken policy contrary to our ideals when we had enhanced interrogation techniques," the former vice president said. Al-Awlaki's death indicates that members of the Obama administration "clearly have moved in the direction of taking robust action when they feel it's justified," Cheney said.

"You'd like an apology, it sounds like?" host Candy Crowley asked the former vice president.

"Well I would," Cheney responded, "I think that would be a--not for me--but I think for the Bush administration."

"I think it was a very good strike. I think it was justified," Cheney added regarding the strike against al-Awlaki, CNN reports. But Cheney added, "I'm waiting for the administration to go back and correct something they said two years ago when they criticized us for 'overreacting' to the events of 9/11."

The Obama administration has been criticized by civil liberties groups and others, including Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, for authorizing the killing of al-Awlaki. These critics argue that, as an American, al-Awlaki had a right to due process.

The Justice Department reportedly issued approval for the CIA to kill al-Awlaki by concluding in a memo that he was not entitled to due process because he was a war combatant.

AP, Wire

LD and company supports and salutes VP Dick Cheney's resolve and ability to tell it like it is to the liberal scourge that is the Obama administration.  Mr. Cheney is not a well man and almost in his dieing breath... he is rebuking the Obama administration for their lies.  Mr. Cheney, a real American, keep up the great work!

apologize for killing a terrorist? and citizenship was supposed to matter? Did it stop the execution of the OKC bomber? Will it stop the execution of the FT Hood guy? Did it stop the execution of Bin Ladin? nope

Kill 2 Americans without charges or trial? Must we Trample/Destroy the Constitution in order to to save the Constitution? Neither the Justice Dept. or the CIA are Judicial Branches of the Govt. This is us trusting only one branch of govt. to decide who lives or dies. The Constitution guarantees a Republic form of govt. and a separation of powers. This is a dangerous path. Who knows what inteligence could be gained from capturing such people. Could our govt. be eliminating people who could demonstrate evidence of govt. involvement in misdeeds? We can't know because justice is out the window and assasinations are the norm now. Where will we be in 10 more years of this? Yes Obama's corrupt and a hypocrit, but there's so much we won't know if we legalize this power to assasinate.

The rise of a terminator like future is unlikely, but the trends towards use of drones for assasination and warfare are UNDENIABLE:

Any trend towards making it usual and customary to bypass the Constitution or to get the US populace used to such acts makes it that much easier for corrupt people to abuse power. I think we can all agree that there is a lot of corruption out there. Use of drones and other such weapons eliminate the need for a lot of manpower that would otherwise have a sense of right and wrong. The army manual for ethics has shrunk in size greatly since the Vietnam war. During Clinton's Presidency it shrunk from over an inch thick to a pamphlet. These trends happen for a reason. The enemy has been within our gates for some time now. They are willing to take the time needed to entrench themselves into the beauracracy and slowly change policies to get what they want. If you ignore your Constitution, you do at your own peril.

Obama should apologize for playing President.

I just wish that drones would be the government's only sinister, or clandestine, weapons in the arsenal. If only there was just one deadly risk to worry about and watch for. Sadly, that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Rule of thumb: Don't like the picture? Remove some problematic humans, and look again.

Awlaki lost his standing as a US citizen when he started his terrorist plotting and left the US. He was waging war against us and was taken out, just as any enemy would have been. Good job with the drone. It kept our troops from harms way and did the job for them.

back to the article: recall election?

Yeah I saw that he was guilty on TV too. And the Obama Administration, we can always trust them and the main stream media, what could possibly go wrong with this new policy of assasination? Every one knows the Gulf of Tonkin Incident was real, Everyone who spoke to Ozwald dying within two years of the Kennedy assasination was just a fluke, and Muzlims with box cutters managed to destroy (3) New York Sky scrapers... Oh and about that
Reverend Jim Jones Kool aid, everyone there was declared a suicide, even the ones with arrows in their backs. Good thing we can trust Obama and the media to teach us everything. Wasn't that the same people calling the tea party "terrorists" earlier this year? We need to fear the American next to us holding a cardboard sign and not the Administration that can kill whenever it thinks it's okay without checks and ballances. Who's drinking the koolaid?

Yes Drones save lives, but less people in the loop means less checks and ballance on the system. But that doesn't matter anymore right? All we need is remember to never let a good crisis go to waste...

don't forget duhh-Nesa (official spelling, as two, four-letter words), and her calling, of my call for saturating/clogging her blogs with LD folks, as 'terrorism.' I call it by it's CONSTITUTIONAL name: freedom of speech! (but she claims that freedom of speech only applies to her, and her side... NOT!)

It's certainly no different from democrap hecklers' disruptions of Republican appearances and speeches. (recently, done to Mitt Romney, and on the national news) In fact, it's EXACTLY the same as what duhh-Nesa did, under the guise/ruse/smokescreen of 'candidate forums.'

It must be working, as she's complained about it online, twice now, (both on the Advocate website, and its facebook page.)
Once, she called it 'think we're so slick...NOT'.
