Liberty County Commissioners Agenda, June 7, 2010
"DISTRICT ATTY’S OFFICE - ANNE STREIT, JOE WARREN, RAGIS FONTENOT, MICHAEL MARK - INCREASE IN STATE LONGEVITY PAY."In a time when Liberty County revenues are down and the people of Liberty County are suffering the most, high paid county employees ask for a pay increase.
Liberty County DA, Mike Little and the people who work for him are some of the highest paid Liberty County employees. In contrast, the Liberty County Attorney's office are some of the lowest paid professionals in Liberty County. What makes Mike Little and his employees so special that they are immune from pay cuts and financial belt tightening?
Attorneys are typically more fruitful in private practice than government practice and usually gravitate to county jobs because they are fresh out of law school and inexperienced. These people are making a career out of working for the DA's office, not using it as the customary lower paid stepping stone to better private practice money.
With all the allegations of corruption in the Liberty County DA's office leveled against Mike Little and his people, why should these people be rewarded?
Allegedly, the DA's office has had a blank check because of the threat of prosecution of other county workers and political enemies. Effectively, the massive flow of money into the DA's office is more extortion and hush money than anything.
Commissioners should strongly consider cutting back the great amount of money which flows into the Liberty County DA's office. The commissioners and the people of Liberty County need to send Mike Little and his employees a strong message that there are no blank checks for the DA's office and their corruption will not be rewarded.
We will report the commissioner's actions regarding this issue.

I agree, they should not be asking for pay increases. If anything, they might be asking for forgiveness, but they won't. The commissioners are just as crooked, so you can forget about them cutting back their buddies. Their buddies dont prosecute them, and they dont cut their wages, or anything else.
Here is a great chance for Commissioner Brown to show some conservative values and stop these raises.
Prediction: With so manu county officials acting in their own interests, commissioners and county judge will gladly pay their potential prosecutors more money.
grant the raises, but post it to their future prison accounts!
These men are anything but good lawyers. They stay because they do not want to compete for work with people who are not guaranteed a paycheck.
If the County Commissioners need more money, all they have to do is call up the Central Appraisal District and have the value of your land raised by 10%. This way they get 10% more money than they stole last year. Did you know that only the County and School Districts give property tax exemptions to the disabled and over 65 property owners? The theieving Hospital District,Drainage District and Emergency gives no exemptions, not even a Homestead exemption. What is wrong with these money theiving Districts? After you have paid These property taxs all your working life, you need a break after you turn 65 years old. (HAWK)
Lee Groce loves when the CAD raise our appraisal values so he can brag he idn't raise our taxes. He has told litle fibs like this his whole career. By not lowering the effective rate (or the multiplier) Groce knows the county will receive more taxes from us. He is so full of deception it is creepy. But the people he does "secial favors" for work hard to get him re-elected.
For example... Look at Lisa Fregia's wages they are way higher than others! How and why does she deserve more money than other? Answer: She don't
If and when these men decide to get off of Mike Little's gravy train, they an always go rent from Judge Hight and get on his gravy train. Hight and Little don't mind paying more to people who help their cause if the money comes from taxpayer pockets.
I am wondering what these people's property is valued at, since they are all in cahoots with the Appraisal District. I also wonder what these people that work for the CAD are appraising their property value at. I think I will go to the Appraisal District and get some copies of these people's property values and compare them with mine and others of the same sqr. footage and acreage. May find something interesting, you never know.
This is State of Texas Mandated pay raises, just like District Judges and some of their staff. The reason being so that all counties citizens will have equal pay in these positions, to have quality people. If they are holding the position they get the pay, CC has no say. Sorry, life is not always fair.
So sorry to inform my fellow Republicans, but this is a State of Texas mandated pay raise and Liberty County really has no say in it. It is this way, so ll counties no matter their size or economics, can have certain positions of equal pay, similar to salaries of District Judges and their staff's. Want to gripe hit John Otto's office about it, this time CCourt is not guilty, they are a rubber stamp to this one.
Mandated by State of Texas, liberty county does not have any control. Ray, you got law degree, this was a article that could have saved space. Dems not guilty, Call Otto and Tommy Williams.
their appraisals?? that's easy.
Your house: $70-$90 per square foot.
Theirs: $25 - $35
Your garage: $8K to $12K
Theirs: $700 to 1500
Your 1500 square foot home: $100K+
Their 3000 square foot business: $50K
Your quarter acre lot:$8500
Their hundreds of acres (farm, ranch, or pipeline): $150.00
Get the picture?
If the State of Texas Mandated the pay raises, why is it up to the commissioners to allow or disallow the pay raise. Moral of the story, you should stop smoking crack! Patty Whack-off.
I would have no beef with paying these people to assist the district attorney in administering blind justice but the district attorney is very very slective and political and these men are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. None of them.
If this is true that the pay raise is State mandated, then why in the hell is Little requesting a pay increase for his staff. So what you are saying is that everyone that works in a Courthouse in the State of Texas is getting a pay increase. Indeed stop smoking the crack and lay off the PCP.
The Commissioners had better give that raise or there will be hell to pay.
Yes indeed a raise for everyone or no more dismissed cases for them or their relatives.

LONGEVITY PAY
Full-time employees are eligible to receive longevity pay after two years of accrued state service credit. Eligible employees are paid $20 per month for every two years of lifetime service credit and will receive longevity pay increases after each additional two years of service, up to and including 42 years of service.
I don't like it either, but Little's office is somehow tied to the state, where Hinch's office is county, which allows the former to get longevity pay and the latter to get screwed.
Having said that, it sure seems like they come up for longevity pay FAR more often than every two years!
To the rude comment about smoking crack, if you would have stayed in high school, you would have taken government classes. You chose to discontinue your education, so now you are ignorant to this concept, that state makes raises happen, but CCourt hold the purse string to county money so they have to approve it, since it is mandated by the state for the counties to pay these raises. Wow, if you would not have bopped your bologna so much, you could connect the dots. Ray Akins confirmed what I said, he has a education, and your ignorance is very apparent, since it seems to be a cornucopia of nothing, upstairs.
