Big Fish Story

I am not from here and I am sure he has his fans, but it is more than I can bear to remain silent about the constant bragging of former County Judge Phil Fitzgerald’s special appointee to aid him with FEMA, Dennis Odell. There have been at least six verifiable first account witnesses to Odell bragging about taking Phil Fitzgerald and Lee Groce down. Let it suffice to say without any dramatic exaggeration, Odell is extremely proud of his role in sending the man that hired him when he needed a job to prison.

But after getting over the irritation caused by an exposure to Odell’s almost steroid like ego, his claim to what he considers fame should be analyzed.

If a man catches a twenty pound catfish, should the person who lent him the fishing pole he caught the big fish with brag about catching the same catfish? Surely not... If the person who lent the man a fishing pole brags about catching the big fish and is later found out to have not only not helped caught the fish but to have actually impeded the reeling in of the fish, what does that tells us about the braggart?

Several people including federal investigators, a local judge, and others have helped to bring justice to the investigation Dennis Odell brags to people about prosecuting. Among the people please note the troubling revelation that both of the chief prosecutors in the courthouse Mike Little and Wes Hinch, contributed nothing to this case. Odell is slightly better than them. He did not burn or destroy any of the paperwork generated by doing his job. But possibly worse than Little and Hinch’s role in the matter, Odell missed an opportunity to stop the crimes while in progress. The paperwork coming into Odell’s office generated by loads of debris is alleged to have indicated discrepancies that should have tipped Odell off. Odell doesn’t brag about this aspect of his part in nabbing the criminals involved in this case.

Odell is like a man that owned a fishing pole that did nothing with it. Odell could have helped protect taxpayers from getting the shaft, but he flubbed his opportunity. He was a no show the day he should have reported problems with FEMA statistics. Now he is showing up to brag about what someone else caught.

Now it is time to see who is going to come to the plate and suggest the job former County Judge Phil Fitzgerald hired Odell to do be vacated. It is time to save the county some money and save all of us hearing fish stories from the guy who was hired to watch out for us and failed.

Is Dennis Odell the city councilman that participated in a council vote that involved his insurance agency a few years ago? Isn't that illegal?

I thought this was a Republican website.

It is a epublican website. Republicans don't let drunk Republicans drive!

It is not just everyone that should run for elective office. People that tell fish stories hurt political parties.

Before Fitzgerald started increasing the drunken spending spree Democrats have been on for years, the person who acquired grants for Liberty County was paid by the grants not by Liberty County taxpayers. Odell's special relationship to Fitzgerald is obviously over. Why not save the taxpayers his salary and get him to collect his fee from the grants he is able to acquire?

If Odell is paid, the money came out of the taxpayers pocket. Whether it was sales tax, gasoline tax or payroll tax,we paid for it. Is Odell runnig for some office or is he just boasting about what he did and didn't do on his job he now has?

Liberty County is a small pond and Dennis Odell wants to be a big fish. He started wrong with Fitzgerald being his benefactor. Perhaps he should learn from him and just stay out of the political realm.

Has Odell been cleared by the feds or is he turning states' evidence in exchange for immunity?

According to Duhneesa, Odell is gone as of September 30. Amazing thing about her story...she didn't mention if the commissioner's voted to pay for Joe Warren's defense. Anyone know that answer?

Great work Judge McNair:

After three years working for Liberty County as a grant administrator, special projects manager and FEMA liaison, Dennis Odell of Liberty is looking for a new job. As of September 30, 2011, his position with the county will no longer exist. Odell said he was informed of the job cut on Tuesday, July 12, by County Judge Craig McNair.

Score another one for LD... Wasn't it Dennis Odell who tried to bring Mike Little into the Republican Party?

Odell, we hope you run for Tax Assessor of Commissioner, you are a sorry waste of space and everyone will know it.

Dennis Odell threw Fitzgerald and Groce under the bus. Odell claims he has more evidence to bury Fitzgerald. Sorry filthy rat

Dennis Odell is a conservative, or says that he is, so reducing the size of local government at least back to pre-Fitzgerald year, should be pleasing to him. In fact, if he wanted conservatives' votes he should have resigned months ago and suggested there be no salaried replacement. He did not.

Odell sounds like a politician already when he talks about his "service" to the county. When he hired on he needd a paycheck after selling his Daddy's State Farm Insurance Agency. Who served who?

Thanks Judge Craig McNair for getting rid of this waste of taxpayer money. I think you are doing a great job. (HAWK)

Judge McNair is having to do the difficult work of living within a budget during these times. The Democrats left Liberty County in tough shape.

I have always been left with the feeling Mr. Odell and Mr. Hinch believed their political success depended on their ability to stay neutral rather than just doing the right thing. If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. Like someone once said: "If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.” Mr. Odell was not appreciated.

Yes Dennis Odell, the Lord has closed and door on you and he don't want you to let it hit on the ass on the way out!

Take your corrupt @ss and get out of the courthouse.

You orchestrated crimes in the courthouse and them put them off on Fitzgerald you dirty rat.

Why dont you go to work for DA Mike Little like every other corrupt criminal in Liberty County has?

What about Don Taylor? A lot of people say he was given a choice, dont seek re-election, or else. If thats true, i for one dont like it. He was neck deep in the corruption, and should pay for his mistakes also. I dont think any of those people, Fitzgerald, Groce, Warren, Little, etc...will ever really pay for their corruption. I hope i'm wrong.
