The country I was born into was a country that had existed steadily, for over two centuries, as a nation in which everyone thought—wherever they were from, whatever their circumstances—that their children would have better lives than they did. I have lived in this county for many, many years and I would say most of us have felt this way about the United States and Texas and Liberty County all of our lives – until recently. That was what has kept people pulling their boots on in the morning after the first weary pause before heading to a long work day: “My kids will have it better”. They'll have it a little better or be a little more educated, they'll have a better job or a better house, they'll take a step up in terms of rank, class or status. America always claimed to be, and meant to be, a nation that made little of class, but a great deal of individual effort. But America is human.
And among us we have elected officials like some that have been mentioned locally who will use their power and their discretion to help their selves and their children at the cost of us all. They will overload the system with their wrongdoing. They will charge their profits and their schemes to the taxpayers mercilessly in one breathe and then they will dispense a perverted type of mercy out to criminals who predictably will harm society again. The system then will have to demand more of its citizens and eventually a vicious cycle of decline will cause us to lose our ability to build a better and better economy and a stronger society.
We see it in the Democratic party’s willingness to allow people to break in line, as immigrants imitate the lawlessness of some of our public officials. They will justify their “rights” by mentioning the names of their children and their desire to improve their lives. The same with the housing bubble. Though much it of it was caused by speculators and rich people over extending themselves as they took advantage of Democrats like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd’s promotion of easy lending practices, much too much of it was done in the name of the poor “so they can afford the American dream too.” As this country starts to falter the poor instead of finding a steady safety net for hard times, they will find a shrinking safety net caused by the overload – and America will then truly have some living in third world-like despair.
Those who love this country can no longer afford politicians or policies that may be defendable legally but they game the system. We must throw people out of office that have built their little kingdoms of power by using our money and our distaste for hard ball political truth. We must start now. Locally. Statewide. And nationally. The United States is in a crisis and we must listen to the good, the bad, and the ugly about those running for office and we must refuse to settle. Who cares whether Charlie Rangel of any of these other people win in court or work a deal, Liberty County needs to be the type place that votes these types out of office. Let them settle their legal problems as defeated candidates.

We have a few elected officials like Rangel around here. They do "favors" for their friends and they abuse their power. What grades on me is that quite a few people know about some of this. I agree we don't have to charge them with anything, we need to DISCHARGE THEM!
What is up with going from helping the poor get medical care to forming a corpration and buying the hospital? Did I miss an opportunity to vote?
Quit whining. You know what you get when you move to one of these small southern communities. Be happy with the good and don't get mixed up with the bad and close your eyes when around the ugly.
I think the letter writer is pointing out we are all "mixed up" with the bad whether we like it or not. Some are running thi place. The point I get is we need to grin and bare some of the politcs so we will get an idea of what is happening and then to vote them out for the sake of our children, etc.
Don't worry Akins, you will get yours. Maybe not in court, but I dare you to run again!
Some of these people still don't get it Ray. They keep thinking this is about you. They mistake guts for the need for intention. It could be intentional to attack you or it could be they have no understanding of people who are dedicated to making things better and don't want anything else in return. They aways have an angle so they think you do.
Finally someone wrote in and pointed out the obvious about Allen Youngblood. Some guy was upset because their little friend was made fun of for acting like a trip to Beaumont was anything other than routine for most and that somene callingthemselves a "reporter"needs to get out more. The commenter used the ole Beaver Cleaver character of the 1960's to poit out Youngblood's cluelessness and here is the responder's comment: "I think it's funny that someone is making fun of Allen's story, 'A Reporter's Day'. Apparently, the writer of the feedback never looked at the name of the website they're on. It says: I-DINEOUT! What part of 'dine out' is so hard to understand for your pea brain? Who would have thought a website owner, writing about a dining experience, with the website having 'dine out' as their name, would be beyond the comprehension of a grown person! Spouting off with the Beaver Cleaver reference has only served to make you look like Eddie Haskell, yet dumber." - Hahahaha! Thanks for straightening us out. Youngblood the car wreck chasing reporter is really a food critic. lease tell your little friend to contain his "news" to his area of expertise.
Speaking of Eddie Haskell, I bet the guy that wrote this thinks if he will kiss butt like ole Eddie,he will be Allen's hero. "Gee Mrs. Cleaver, I mean Beav, I mean Allen,it sounded like you really had a nice time riding over to Baytown to watch the big people talk about how trials work in this country, can I ride next time?"
"Ward, I am worried about Beaver. Wally never behaved this way. Beaver is almost hyperventilating over this Mr. Kelley. The only time I remember Wally beingthat excited was when he was taking Alice Cook to the Sophmore prom!"
Starring Klint Bush as Eddie Haskell. Lee Groce as Lumpy. And the brown noser anonymous writer as June Cleaver. Ward Cleaver played by Big Daddy "Rusty" Hight. Wally played by John Archer. And Allen Youngblood as the Beaver.
You are so dam+ funny Akins. You, Shauberger, and Pegues remind all of Liberty County of the Three Stooges! "Hahahahaha". I understand somebody forged your name on documents and you will have to be let go, but I bet your sorry as" is too chicken to run for office again.
They ought to bring that Klint kid in and check his handwriting and anyone else that the District Attorney can surmise may have tried to frame you gentlemen.
Hey EVE, what did Ray ever do to you. He must have ruffled your feathers some where along the way. Why not some comments about these lunatics running this scam Hospital District.
Somebody ought to bring that Klint kid in and check to see if he has a brain! Could it be for all of his efforts, he will end up with everyone feeling betrayed by him and with legal bills out his boo tay.
