DA CANDIDATE PICKETT AND ADA WARREN BROKE ELECTIONEERING LAWS

One of the worst things about good ole boy politics is the “passing of the torch” that goes on in a system dominated by people covering each others rear ends. In Liberty County over 100 years of Democrats winning every public office made it easy for some of the shady Democrats to hand pick their replacement when they grew tired of holding office. It made it easy for them to use their office and its power to defeat their opponent. In the history of Liberty County Democrats, Republicans did not have a chance. The power of incumbency and the Democrats relationship to the liberal media left no cracks for Republicans to break through; they could not win – until Bobby Rader won his JP race over a decade ago.

In fact, there is only one countywide office left that has a continuous uninterrupted string of “torch passing”. That is the District Attorney’s office. And Mike Little is doing all he can to coerce the voters to choose the least experienced District Attorney in Liberty County history. He has even got Logan Pickett running as a Republican.

Two Assistant District Attorneys under Little have even had to officially been told to “cool it” as far as illegally campaigning in the courthouse. After numerous complaints by jurors, a courthouse wide letter went out to specifically address that campaigning in the courthouse would not be tolerated. The assistant district attorneys are Logan Pickett and Joe Warren. They were told to either cease or desist their electioneering to juries or they would risk facing the consequences.

Rather than honor the intent of the law, Pickett and Warren when confronted simply changed their modus operandi. Instead of openly campaigning to their near captive audiences, they now take the when the largest number of citizens/voters are compelled to be in court to recite their resume’s. There can be anywhere from 80 to 200 people sitting through the process of jury selection… and Pickett and Joe Warren have recently started taking up those people’s time with personal speeches about their qualifications and their family etc. – effectively campaigning to potential jurors.

Originally it was surmised that Joe Warren must feel a desperate need to help Pickett win to insure his position in the D.A.’s office to be doing this kind of thing. Recently however, Liberty Dispatch has been informed that Warren may have twice as much reason to risk a citation for illegal electioneering as originally thought. Sources indicate Warren intends to run against County Court-at-Law Judge Tommy Chambers in 2014.

As for Mike Little’s oversight of the behavior of his men, Liberty Dispatch has found no evidence that he has disciplined, or even disapproved of either Logan Picket or Joe Warren for their behavior. In fact, Little has engaged in his own deceptive and some say illegal practices. He is inflating Pickett’s resume’ by sending out press releases that and try make the least experienced and least successful prosecutor in his office sound like a world champion lawyer.

The good ole boy system is on its last leg. This community should not have to endure ambitious misguided lawyers abusing their privileges and breaking campaigning laws.

This community should not have to suffer through campaign spin to read about what is happening in our courts. This county does not belong to the “torch passers”, we are not stupid. Our opportunity has arrived and we will vote for the most experienced candidate with the most integrity in order to insure our courts are purged from the political games we have seen in the past.

Editor’s note: In one of his campaign speeches to potential jurors, Joe Warren revealed his intentions to file a lawsuit against the county related to Sheriff Patterson arresting him earlier in the year. A grand jury passed on indicting Joe Warren for charges brought by Sheriff Henry Patterson. Any judgment won by Warren in court against the county would be paid for with taxpayer money.

This would be an interesting development, since Warren‘s wife allegedly wiped out and destroyed many of the forms and documents, etc. Judge Chambers needed to effectively run his office. Lisa Warren was the secretary to Judge Chambers’ predecessor and if accounts are correct, she had anything but the heart of a public servant when Chambers defeated his Democrat opponent. Lisa Warren was never charged with destroying public documents.

I vote for the best most qualified candidate and Mr. Pickett can not earn my vote by cornering me in the courthouse.

While Pickett and Warren are campaigning in fron of jury panels, Karen McNair is focused on handling her cases in a prudent and professional manner. Her experience is more vast and has more of the kind of integrity and dignity befitting a district attorney.

The only thing most people agree on in this race is Patterson has to go.

You are wrong. The Picketts worked for Todd Fontenot to win in the past and they almost defeated Bobby Rader in his first race. The Picketts and Bruce Stratton forced the hospital district and all of its taxes on us and they kep that weasel Zeb Zbranek in office for years.

I am never surprised how low a politician will go. Whose responsibility is it to stop electioneering? The D.A.'s?

Monkey see,monkey do!

It is illegal to campaign in the courthouse. It is wrong to slap your wife around. It is deceptive to inflate the number of trials you have prosecuted. It is Obama-like to run for an office you are not prepared to hold.

At least three people complained about this previous to your story. Are they still doing this?

Are you kidding me? Do these Picketts think they own the courthouse and the city hall?

Arm twisting does not win elections. the Pickett family's sense of entitlement is legendary. they think they should run everything.

Joe warren is exactly like Logan Pickett. One way they are alike is they both will now tell you they are longtime Republicans, but there is no evidence they have ever helped one local Republican. the other way they are alike is they both desperately need anger management classes.

Normally i hate hearing negative things about a candidate just a few weeks before an election, but CHEATING is one of my exceptions. Keep us posted LD! No one else will.

Personal comments about the temperment or the spousal relationships of a candidate are the kinds of things only low life scumbags discuss in polite society. Please shut up and die!

What a classy comment? I guess someone is a bit touchy and perhaps wants to elect people who can not exercise self control. Please keep talking and live - it's your 1st amendment right!

Im am tired of looking at this website and hearing over and over about Logan Pickett being too young and too inexperienced to be our next district attorney. I graduated with Logan and if we are not old enough by now we will never be old enough. Get off of Logan and talk about the JP#1 race or the congressional race or look like a one issue blog.

I believe the point he last commentator brings up is slightly off. I think the point is more about Pickett's lack of experience and lack of success. I have talked to attorneys that practice in our courthouse and they would prefer going up against Pickett. I am no Pickett hater, but when someone is green behind the earsthat is a good time to compete with them.

Ha ha ha! Did someone tilt the crown on one of the Pickett's heads? there has never been one of the Liberty Picketts in all of the history of their majestic lives that practiced law in a way that would make me vote for them for district attorney. Hire them for something to do with real estate, maybe. A will, yeah. Tax problems, sure. But criminal law, no way.

What is good for the goose is good for the gander.......Karen McNair handles way more cases than Logan Pickett. And she doesn't share the work and take credit for all of it. She could campaign on a solo stage in cases handled by the county attorney. Oh - two problems. Karen follows the law. Karen's boss would not look the other way andallow what Mike Little has.

I am sick and damn tired of your anti-Patterson, anti-Pickett bullsh*t. Why don't you leave the races up to the candidates and shut your faces!

Another nerve hit ....... and LD and everyone else should exercise their first amendment rights. The voters will decide. If the voters want more Patterson and more Little (I mean Pickett), they canhave one more voter vote for them than their opponents.

If Im on a jury for Joe Warren against Patterson and his investigators outsiders are sued, all I can say is bring a trash sack Joe, I will help you fill it with green my man.

Joe your a good guy, get the hell away from Pickett.

In your article you stated that the corrupt system of government in Liberty county is on its last leg. You are right, Fontenot is one leg, Patterson is the other leg with Mike Little as the @ick in the middle and melvin is the pooper in the back..

Perhaps Joe Warren is campaigning so hard for Pickett because he, like Little, cannot afford an 'outsider' to become DA. How easy it will be for a fair and just DA to return Warren's case back to a real grand jury for an indictment. I certainly hope when she's elected that Karen McNair will clean house and start all over with new Assistant DA's. I certainly know from personal experience and knowledge of each present ADA that they are all dirty!

broken election laws? So does Patterson. Look at all the hand scrawled signs, tacked to telephone poles in town.

If this behavior is true...then it is certainly a " red flag" ! Already breaking the rules? This type of mentality and behavior is exactly what Liberty is trying to get rid of isn't it? HONESTY!!! Please vote for the candidate who is ethical and trustworthy so that Liberty County may be represented in a professional manner....so that the citizens may feel confident knowing that the prosecution of criminals and/or persons charged with criminal acts will be dealt with fairly. Harsh and strict punishment is a must; however, it can only be truly justified with fair and honest presentation of facts and with valid charges and documents ( evidence). Note: Intimidation tactics and bogus charges, on and on do not make a District Attorneys great.!! On the contrary, any idiot can lie and cheat to get the results they want in a case, but it takes an honest and fair leader to get these same results by practicing honesty and fairness.

yes, Patterson election code violating behavior's true. Ditto for the city's sign ordinances. There's two of those signs right now, one at each end of Well's road. There were others, tacked on the inside wall of the post office, and on the telephone pole at its exit drive. More, were downtown, at the stop sign by the hospital. The poor grammar and hand scrawlings are reminiscent trademarks of his son-in-law, Chris (we all remember his voluminous posts on LD)!!!

NEWSFLASH!!! It sure is hilarious, how quickly Patterson's illegal Wells road signs came down...
(somebody send Chrissy a donut, so he'll have something to SIT on) lol

Either LCSO is psychic (again,) or they're reading LD for the news!!!lmao

Anonymous said...

let's post a different Patterson sign violation daily, until littly Chrissy gets the message from papa, Rex, and the coffee club... (uhhhh, JUNIOR, that's a romper red no-no)!!!
ROFL

BTW: there's another one, on a telephone pole, at the corner of Shell and Williams. It's in the city limits, so it's a violation of the city sign ordinances too.
