Liberty County Commissioner Mike McCarty has been as responsible as County Judge Craig McNair has been serious in taking on the job of securing the courthouse.
McCarty was given the duel job of orchestrating the stripping down of the courthouse grounds and the beautification of it. To some that may have sounded mutually exclusive, but Commissioner McCarty has been very diligent in his approach. He has been careful in the way the over one hundred year old oaks were trimmed. He also used the opportunity to level the grounds and soon the public will see the best grass that has ever covered the grounds.
McCarty also took advantage of the opportunity and got approval to improve the drainage around the courthouses outside walls. The improved drainage will help inhibit the growth of mold and the drain itself will be easy to take care of and pleasant to the eye.
Of course Liberty Dispatch looks forward to the completion of this project just as everyone else should, but we also believe Commissioner McCarty had already improved the courthouse square weeks ago when he removed the reserved parking sign former County Commissioner Todd Fontenot had erected for himself.
Keep up the good work Mike!

Mike has always been a hard worker. I think the courthouse will look better than it ever has in a few weeks, but even if that were not true I am glad they are trying to "jihad proof" it.
I am glad to here the courthouse is being made safer after that nut came up there.
If the Dems hadn't wasted somuch money on stupid stuff we could do everything that needs to be done all at one time.
Ha ha ha! Craig is too much of a tightwad and too focused on getting the budget back under control to just throw money at a problem.
He threw money to James Carson
If James Carson is not a valuable asset to the county his days are numbered.craig feels it is his duty to bail taxpayers out of Tookie,Lee, and Fitz's deep hole.
How come Judge McNair keeps going to Tennessee? He is a carpetbagger, that is why!
Craig is from here. Perhaps you do not understand what the word carpetbagger means. Craig IS a father though. And he does visit his daughter in Tennessee. That is on weekends of course. Like most fathers he has tried to help his daughter get adjusted and he has averaged flying up there about once a month. People trying to use make good parenting a political liability need to go visit there priest.
Why isn't he ever in his office smartass?
Let me interrupt this conversation and say when LD went by to talk to County Judge McNair today he was out of the office. Later in the day we found himto be at the county jail touring the facilties with Sheriff Rader. Craig is not Tookie Kirkham. He does not jump in front of cameras or sit around with cronies telling passersby that he doesn't drink. Craig is a man on a mission. his four years should be judged on whther he makes significant progress in getting a handle on teh county's finances (period).
stripping down the courthouse grounds. Old and gray, never looked uglier. What's McCarty's breathing plan, without the plants, which take in all of that political hot air (carbon dioxide) and change it to breathable oxygen? This seems like an individual, who is just a tad misguided, biologically. Are the environmentalists and tree huggers screaming, yet? Want some fun? Challenge the nearest high school service club, or civic group, to correct and remediate his mess.
Put their pictures in the news.
I went by there today, looks like progress to me.
It's looking better, cleaner and a lot less cluttered. I am a bit concerned about the drainage system they are installing around the foundation. I didn't see any piping (usually 4" S&D PVC pipe set below grade, in a trench, with the bull rock covering it and with the piping egressed to the lawn or storm sewer) as all I saw was tar paper laid down first, at grade, with the bull rock covering it. I'm not sure just how well this will work even if there is a 2' to 5' grade difference between the courthouse and sidewalk level. Never the less, I do applaud their efforts.
"sparkling downtown liberty" kshn always says, they need to look out a window across the street at the old liberty county jail, what a mess !
