At approximately 12:33pm this date, the Liberty County Sheriff's Department responded to a call at the Fitzpac Grocery parking lot located at Hwy. 105 and Hwy. 146 in mid-Liberty County regarding a truck driver who was found slumped over the steering wheel of the "box truck" he was driving.
Sgt. Investigator Brian Bortz talked to the witness who found the driver and attempted to assist him by stepping up into the truck which was still running and in gear. Medical assistance was summoned to the scene but the truck driver was deceased upon their arrival.
Very preliminary investigation indicates the driver may have had existing medical issues as items of a medical nature were found in the cab of the truck. At this early stage of the investigation, it appears the driver passed away from natural causes. The Sheriff's Department is continuing the investigation at this time.
