Cleveland Pastor Aubrey Vaughan should have plenty of signatures from Cleveland residents to remove the city’s red light camera system by now. The petition is a proposed amendment to the city charter to remove the red light cameras.
Pastor Vaughan working with a local Tea Party group began collecting quite a few of the estimated 208 signatures they would need during the May 29th primaries. At last count the group had collected nearly 500 Cleveland residents' signatures. Their arguments against red light cameras have ranged from they are unfair and they violate our constitutional right to confront your accused. They have argued the whole idea behind these cameras is not safety, its revenue - the cameras collect money by ticketing residents and then the money is taken out of the community. They also are quick to add that according to their information, accidents have gone up after the installation. (There were more crashes in the first 25 days than in the entire 18 months before there were no cameras).
Liberty Dispatch believes this red light cameras issue is a non partisan issue and that anyone that believes in freedom should help Pastor Vaughan have the red light cameras taken out of Cleveland. There is a statewide epidemic of cities that are in a budget crisis turning to things like these cameras. Democrats, Republicans, and Tea Party members ought to join together and refuse to let people we elect (and people we employ) set up a system to collect money in a manner that is against WE THE PEOPLE’S will. How can local governments possibly argue that this is in the best interest of the taxpayer?
Why does government almost always turn to increasing revenue when they can’t pay for everything they want to do? How about controlling spending instead of going after victimless traffic violations? The government’s use of cameras should be highly restricted.
* Please note: One of the final efforts to get signatures will take place June 23, 2012 beginning at the Entrance driveway to Wal-Mart at 10:00 am.

several issues there:
First, they didn't do their legal homework, prior to drafting the petition. It could have been worded, such that the accidents caused by the red light cameras are the "traffic safety" reason for their recall, and... thus the funds shall be used to bear the costs of the litigations to come (with the vendor, who always sues to enforce the contract. That litigation expense has cost Houston millions!)
Second, apparently the free-for-all, in terms of raping motorists for money is ON. DPS had nine troopers on Monday, in just 7 miles, from Cleveland to the Champions truck stop, south of Shepherd. It seems that everybody wants in on the financial windfall, by busting those huge drug shipments on US 59.
ENIGMA: How we ever got to this point (and I'm reminded of the gang rape trials to come,) that using one's BODY for money... is Prostitution; yet using one's BADGE for money... ISN'T????
one screwed up scenario, no matter how one looks at it!
And please take down the NAZI billboards on the edge of town with the cop car and warnings on them.
So we paid people out in California or Arizona to tack up some of their cameras. They spy on Texans and decide whose wallet they can get into and then send a little of that money back to the city. Then the city encourages buying I (heart) Clevelandbumper stickers. IT IS THE CRUMBS PEOPLE! We are have put peoplein charge that are allowing tickets tobe sent to your and my grandma by people on the west coast so we can get a couple of bucks SO THOSE SAME PEOPLE AT THE CITY CAN CONTINUE TO SPEND MOENY. We are the suckers!
why sweat just the cameras, and ignore all the other gov't spying on our vehicles and persons?
Specifically, we already have gov't tracking/scanning microchips in the following (and by no means, an exhaustive list):
state inspection sticker on windshield.
state registration sticker on windshield.
enhanced Texas drivers licenses.
All US Passports
all emails
all cell phones
all credit cards
all debit cards
all texting
all internet websites
all satellite linked communications
"trigger" words on phone conversations, which kick in tracking/recording: i.e. president, bomb, explosive, gun,...
Some people who are belatedly seeing what Obama is really like are saying that he has changed. This is probably easier to say than admitting that you were blind to the man's whole history before, and were taken in by his rhetoric and geniality. We have politicians here in Liberty county that voters gave a pass to this primary season. I suspect they will discover those people have "changed" after four years of seeing who they really are.
I dont understand what all this screaming was about. The Red Light Cameras were not the cities idea. They were former disgraced Chief Mark Bradshaw's idea. The city in all actuality wants the red light cameras to be turned off in hopes that the alleged embezzlement and misappropriation of red light funds by Chief Bradshaw will be completely forgotten and ignored and the city will stay out of the limelight and not receive anymore negative publicity.
I think someone said the city if missing over a million dollars at least. Follow the dollars and watch people go to prison.
More fingers in another slush fund's pie? Say it isn't so!
if the city wants them off, then explain why they can't scratch up a few hundred petition signers?
Something's fishy.
I know this won't be printed becasue it is not on the level of these people who don't know what they are talking about. The Chiefs do not handle any of the red light money. It goes directly to the City and the money is used for the police dept. to purchase equipment. You need to check with City Hall and get your statements correct. You dumb "hillbillys" I would hope that you would want Cleveland to move forward. NO, you just want to complain about the peole who are trying hard to make a difference. Glad our City doesn't run our City down the way you do yours.
"hillbilly"? The only hill around, is the top of the landfill.
If the City does want them off, then why dont they simply stop charging people the fines? Seems to me if the red light company wasnt making any money, they would take them down on their own.
if you don't run red lights, then what is the problem? the people in arizona or where ever wont get our money & we wont have to worry about who gets what or where it goes. people..... be perpared to stop at a red light even if it is yellow or stale green. that is what we were tought in drivers ed in high school!
