PART 3: PATTERSON SAYS WITH HIM WE WILL “GET MORE OF THE SAME”

There is a huge difference in the way two of the candidates for local office view themselves and their vision of what the want to do for the county. The incumbent, Henry Patterson admitted in one of the political forums that his re-election bid did not include promises of improving anything, while challenger Bobby Rader’s record of public service has been all about improvement and innovation- two candidates, two different views of the future.

Patterson’s campaign advisers have pointed out that the re-election of their man should be about the only re-election Liberty County voters’ support. They view Patterson and his “more of the same” campaign promise as a great start, but they also believe voters made poor decisions in the last election when they elected three Republican judges. They think cleaning the courthouse out should START now, while for many voters this will be the third election in a row they will vote to replace longtime incumbents.

“Henry Patterson’s re-election and the defeat of all three of the judges and several other people recently elected will happen if things are served up the voters the right way”, campaign adviser to Patterson, Eddie Shauberger said. “We have a couple of the right Pastors and the right businessmen behind our goals and we are unstoppable,” he continued.

Bobby Rader will have strong support from the Christian community, but his analysis of where Liberty County is politically must be very different. Rader was elected JP when there were no Republican elected officials. Democrats courted him, but unlike Patterson’s first run for office, Rader has always run Republican and he has always said his beliefs were better aligned with the GOP’s. That perspective undoubtedly has affected his view of Liberty County politics– he has seen the voters come to the polls the last two elections and agree with him. While Patterson sees the need for change, Rader recognizes the voters have already made many of the changes that were needed.

Rader has not seen the changes he believes need to happen in the Sheriff’s department however. Why else would he be running? When Rader was elect JP he adopted a Ted Poe like style of applying the law. His color blind, innovative, creative way of applying justice to the poor and the rich alike is result oriented. Like Poe, Rader wanted to protect the public and punish lawbreakers, but he also wanted to use the discretion the law gives judges to discourage the unrepentant in your face criminals while judiciously applying mercy to those who show promise of change. He is no pushover and you better not appear before him, but this law and order Republican allows common sense and compassion in the courtroom.

As sheriff, Rader would have a very different job than when he was judge, but rest assured he would make changes. Patterson keeps pointing to a statistic that would appear to mean his leadership has Liberty County’s Sheriff Department shining in the state with a 40% rate of closing their cases. And when Rader says the real figure can be computed by taking the number of cases and the number of successful arrest and convictions, Patterson implies Rader is trying to deny an obvious reason for voters to keep him in office. Patterson says that 40% number comes from the Governor’s office – and wants to know if Rader is calling the Governor a liar. But when Rader points out that the figures the Governor uses come from each sheriff’s office … the argument for any claim to fame by Patterson gets quiet.

While Patterson proudly proclaims if we vote for him we will get “more of the same”, Rader says he will use his knowledge of what kind of evidence is needed to win conviction to train deputies and other needed changes so the Sheriff’s department can start having a real 40% closure rate by convicting criminals rather than playing with numbers.

Voters may discard everything else that is said in this race, but knowing each man’s aspirations and goals is very telling.

I guess tat means we will continue to have Eddie Hamburger and the Outisders doing detective work on Joe Warren and the Judges if Patterson is elected again?

Henry needs to gather up with Kelly when he gets out of prison this summer and run for the hills. Their whole operation could come unraveled at any moment.

I know Pegues is friends with Will Cox but you guys got quit acting like 70 year old Cox is a real option this election. The only way we will get Patterson out is to vote for Rader. Cox should have been elected a decade ago and we would have a lot better sheriff's department by now, but he has passed his time.

Quotes like this one is why Patterson rarely speaks.

I knew it! Patterson is so ambitious ....hahahahaha. Anybody that spends more time eating biscuits with his buddies and heads home early every day is sure to be satisfied with the status quo. Our deputies deserve better leadership and a better example.

While Patterson's mudy voter slinging outsider friends try to convince us Bobby Rader and Will Cox are not qualified, every voter has had a good seat to witness the single best indicator of whether a man is qualified. That indicator can only be looked at if the man has had the job. Patterson has had the job for over three years and there is nothing to argue about. he has shown himself by his performance to be unqualified. e can not do the job. He has imported people who are not even on the payroll (or at least we hope they are not) to advise him on how to run the department and how to make political moves using his position and he is still not up to sheriffing.

I have read Aubrey Vaughan's "rebuttal" and I am sure everyone at LD is quite satisfied with allowing him to have the last word. Between Eddie Shauberger's ghost writing for Valdez and Mr. Vaughan's emphasizing the strangeness of the circle of people Henry Patterson has writing on behalf of his speechless campaign, why would anyone consider Patterson as anything other than their third choice for sheriff?

I have duly noted a slight bit of reserve in LD's approach of critiqueing a pastor and I appreciate your intent. I too am careful when I publicly disagree with a man of the cloth. But in today's world there are plenty of men and women who represent themselves as shepherds that are not necessarily leading their flock where Jesus would have them lead. Your use of the latin question "quo vadis" got my attention, but not as much as any response this preacher may have. Where is he leading us and with what authority concerning the re-election of Henry Patterson? Does he belive his endorsement is proof God is for re-electing this Sheriff? Is that what these Outisder people are promoting? They have the Fuddy man who we have read is an evangelist and Mr. Shauberger who has recently been ordained and now this pastor. All three men together have near the same number of followers in Liberty County as the KKK has here.

Patterson and his outsiders are a bunch of google eyed fools.

With Henry's promise of "More of the same", he could run Democrat again and fit right in with Obama's "More change". Liberty County can't take "more of the same" from either one of them.

more of the same has a double meaning: His buddy, Harry Kelley is due back from Leavenworth, in July. Now, THAT's more of the same!

Annonymous,
I cant speak for others on Pattersons staff. I can speak of Rex and as far as I have seen this guy works around the clock. He has done his job under difficult circumstances. Its a shame he has come under attack on here becuase of who his boss is. He pushed and pushed to find that little boy to his family for the closure they needed.

AMEN ON LETS TAKE OUR COUNTY BACK. I hope that when Bobby Rader is elected he hires all of the good local deputies back. These guys know our county and most of the people who live in their area. All Patterson knows is what Cooper, Green and Evans tell him. Steve Green may be a good lawyer but he makes a crappie deputy. Jim Cooper should retire while he can and Rex Evans needs to marry that waitress at the Plantation and move to Harris county. May 29th is going to be a good day.......

You might want to re-check your history, there. Since all of our kids have to pass TAKS and STAAR exams, (all written by Great Britain's Pearson publishing)- it seems that we never did get full independence from England!

(and you thought that Austin's region XIII, or TEA crowd- had sufficient intelligence, to design and produce all of that??? HA! Surely, you jest...)

Also, given the huge herds of illegals, flooding both Texas, and this area (with full impunity); it seems that we never did get independence from Mexico!!!

First things, first. Let's get FULL independence from both, England and Mexico; THEN.... we can get started on "taking our country back"! ^^^^^^^^^^^^

good story. Right on the money.

Rex Evans has a girlfriend, so lets stop all the gossip, and stick to the subject.

Anonymous said...

what.... it's a valid topic for Clinton, but not for Evans? I don't think so.

Clinton was a married president and Rex Evans is not married. Just because he is at the Plantation every morning this doesnt mean hes is sleeping with the waitress. He has a beautiful and very sweet girlfriend... I cant believe he would be messing around with that waitresss.
