TODD FONTENOT, A TRUE DEMOCRAT

County Judge Craig McNair voted to break a 2-2 tie in favor of the emergency shelter project that would buy additional land and use $2 million worth of federal grant money to construct it. The vote was along party lines with Democrat Precinct 1 Commissioner Todd Fontenot and Democrat Precinct 3 Commissioner Melvin Hunt voting “no” and Republican County Judge Craig McNair joining Republican Commissioner Charlotte Warner and Republican Commissioner Norman Brown voting “yes”.

Commissioner Fontenot continues to openly resist any strategies proposed by Republicans to save the county money. Fontenot was part of the commissioner’s court, along with Melvin Hunt, who plunged nearly $2 million in the old Wal-Mart building without having a strategy to develop the property. Now Fontenot wants to throw good money away to try and fix the poorly thought out investment him and former Commissioner Lee Groce and former County Judge Phil Fitzgerald sunk taxpayers’ money into. In the absence of Fitzgerald, Fontenot has no rational defense of keeping this property. He seems to be in a rut of just voting to spend, spend, and spend. At least Fitzgerald was thought by many to be out beating the bush to find a good deal.

Fontenot said, “We have existing property and buildings and the end result of all of this is less facility because of less money.”

Fontenot continues to display this same attitude in all of his decisions. His attitude about taking a huge building on prime property off of the tax rolls and having no concrete plans of how to use most of it is an example of his lack of business sense and a disregard for taxpayer money.

This attitude is not surprising from Fontenot however. He has expensive elitist taste and a deceptive method of passing the cost of his taste onto the taxpayers. If he runs for re-election he will brag about not raising taxes, but Fontenot has repeatedly dug into taxpayer pockets by creating bonds or debt in all of the county taxpayers’ names – that may be worse than raising taxes because it postpones the bills like a credit card for future taxpayers.

Fontenot displays his arrogance on a daily basis in many overt ways besides his “buy the biggest and the best” attitude. In the midst of the budget crunch he helped because he lobbied hard for a new precinct barn in the expanded area he was warned was too far from the existing barn. He continues to put a hold on one of the coveted parking places near the courthouse steps with the only reserved parking place for a commissioner in the history of Liberty County. He was indignant about one of his political lieutenants being part of the budget cuts despite reports she does very little work and public revelation that she is an important part of his political machine.

So who can possibly be surprised that Fontenot wants to keep the huge Wal-Mart building rather than sell it and then claim he is saving money by not purchasing a much smaller less expensive building with the federal grant.

Local Liberty County Democrats like to act like they have nothing in common with the tax and spend Democrats in Washington D.C., but their actions speak louder than their campaign lies.

Attaboy Todd! All those trips to Austin on our dollars has taught you show the other side lives. Get you a new barn and keep Connie Paintsil, we can borrow money to pay for your biggest dreams.

If someone doesn't run against Todd Fontenot let's eliminate the position. WE CAN NOT AFFORD FONTENOT.

Glad to see you guys are back on this Democrat spendthrift. I have driven by Todd Fontenot's "reseerve parking spot" at the courthouse 23 times in the last week. Not once was there a car parked there. Why in the world is a public servant who is rarely there getting preference over the elderly and the handicapped?

Todd tells the people in Ames "we got to all stand together" and he speaks out of the other side of his mouth downtown.

I have seen this Connie woman at the courthouse half a dozen times and I am yet to see her do one thing. How can we afford her?

Another thing I noticed about Todd Fontenot at Commissioners Court was, he wanted to know how he could keep the $180,000 he had got from an oil Company to fix a road in Prct.#1. He was told that at the end of FY the money went back to the County general fund. County Attorney told him he would have to amend his budget for FY 2012 and add this money back in to 2012 budget. You would think as long as he has been a commissioner that he would have known how to do this. I think I would have asked someone this question, before I made a fool of myself before the crowded Court last Tuesday.

keep your eyes open, folks. There's another arrest of a firefighter, accused of firebugging. This one, has several former fire department associations, as yet undisclosed.

As you'll remember, we've had several similar arrests in LC over the years. Sheriff Patterson recalls "at least three" from Cleveland VFD alone, while he was CPD.

Yes, the twisted hero syndrome, (start the fires, so you can be a hero), is on the rise again.

Vigilance, constant vigilance, everybody.

Fontenot has no idea what most of that WalMart building would be used for. He is unable to put a deal together but he wants taxpayer to hang on to anyway. Somebody will buy that building you stuck us with Todd and they will pay taxes on it and then you will spend that tax money. Good enough plan for your credit card self......

The Picketts got Fontenot elected and we have had to pay the bill for his decisions. Their little group of block voters need to wake up!

The idea of Todd Fontenot running for re-election reminds me of the story about the little girl who asked her father, 'do all fairy tales begin with "Once upon a time"?
The father replied, 'No, some begin with - If I am re-elected.' Please let's get someone in commissioners court to represent us.

uh, LD, we might want to get Charlotte Warner a little help.

Seems that she played newbie, and fell for the old scheme: find budget cuts and bring them in.
Of course, she was the only Commissioner who could possibly find any. The others, gleefully received all the money she brought in, divided it up for themselves (sure honey, we'll take all this nasty old MONEY off your hands!!!), and promptly made mental notes to make sure that those monies never appear in her future budgets, again. After all, she says that she doesn't need it, RIGHT? What a way to lose
$650K!!!!
(talk about volunteering for it)!

It's great to have new blood in office. However, it's quite painful to watch novices 'learn the ropes.'
