If asked, many voters would probably tell pollsters that they could care less about the love lives of the two candidates for the 75th District Court Judge. But we can see from polls in other elections that many do care about the private lives of potential officeholders. In the case of this particular race, it may be difficult for either candidate to win by being negative about the other. In fact, if the race turns ugly and voters get tired of the nastiness they may say who cares if Mark Morefield doesn’t have a certificate showing he is married to the woman he has been devoted to and has successfully raised a child with for many years, or who cares about how unfaithful sitting judge Rusty Hight has been in his marriage?
The deciding factor in this election may all come down to experience. As voters consider these men’s abilities as attorneys, we may all have differing opinions. For those who are not friends of Hight or Morefield, I would encourage you to have a conversation with both. My experience has been that one man seems to know more about the law and to rely on the law more than his own opinion, but you may have a different opinion. Close friends of these two men will undoubtedly have talking points and try to persuade people to vote for their buddy, but rest assured none of us will necessarily have the advantages that these buddies will have in the courtroom if their guy is elected. Sometimes friends will highlight the positives of their guy and beef up or make up the negatives. For instance, if someone comes up to you campaigning for Hight, I doubt they will mention when he got caught and reprimanded for cheating in a case several years back, and I doubt people campaigning for Morefield will underscore the fact that he has less experience on the bench. No experience in fact.
But since Judge Hight’s experience will be what most would say is his biggest advantage (perhaps his only one), in the coming weeks, Liberty Dispatch will review that experience. Rather than hope every voter talks to both candidates and comes to the same conclusion we did about Morefield being much more knowledgeable about the law and how to apply it justly, we will attempt to inform the voters and give them a chance to voice some feedback concerning the experience Hight has. We believe voters will be pleased that Morefield doesn’t have the same kind of experience.
With an informed electorate, we should all be hopeful that bad experience will not attract voters. To change Liberty County and make it better, we will have to be willing to put people with less experience in office and relieve from duty those whose experience is negative.

Hights wife is well thought of in the community, its too bad he (mr. deacon)cant keep his &ick in his pants.
Did anyone else watch and listen to Allen Youngblood's YouTube ode or salute to the local fallen Soldier, SSG Jesse Ainsworth.
I watched and listened to Youngbloods YouTube rendition with him playing the organ in the background. Man that's some creepy off tempo stuff, pounding the keys on that organ. Sounded like a creepy Vincent Price horror movie.
God bless the family!
You know...I went to church with Rusty Hight for many, many years during which time he held the position as deacon. You will notice I used the phrase "held the position as deacon" rather than "served as deacon". I cannot come up with one memory of Rusty actually doing any work, giving any time or participating in service to the church as a result of his position as deacon. It was a title for him, given as a result of his relationship to father-in-law Wisegerber, rather than a job that he wanted to participate in.
Leah Wisegerber Hight is a precious woman who has endured years of her husband's philandering, his self-serving actions and his emotional abuse.
Rusty Hight is not the type of person that I even wanted to see as Judge, but he was the best choice when he ran against Bruce Stratton and Michael Mark.
We now have a qualified candidate for Judge of the 75th District Court. Mark Morefield is not a politician!!! He is an excellent attorney who knows the law like no other attorney in Liberty County. But that's not the best part. The best part is that, because he's not a politician, he will actually uphold the law...he will make rulings that follow the law rather than what best fits his own agenda. We need Mark Morefield as Judge for the 75th District Court in Liberty County.
While I can agree Rusty is a dud among our deacons, some of these other coments are not supported by facts.
Fair minded well informed voters have not really had a really good choice to fill his sat until now, Morefield will appl the law properl with no political or personal bias. If some Republicans are hoping they will have some "pull" on he bench, they can forget it with Morefield. He will believes in the rule of law.
Who cares about Republicans having pull? I am sick and tird of Rusty Hight helping his buddies and punishing his enemies - all in the nme of justice!
If you only knew. I could write a book on Hight. He has never changed. He is the same pile of sh>t he was as a teenager. When we were younger we use to say God must made him fast so he could run from all of the people who wanted to beat him up. I guess later he became a cigar chewing lawyer to keep from getting beat up. Don't know Morefield, but it has to be an improvement.
Old ugly rusty and his cheating is another example of his offical abuse of power....no way he could find a willing woman if he wasnt a judge....Rusty Combover
High may b a cigar smoking lawyer that is a do nothing as a deacon at his father-in-law's church, but Morefield is such a wallflower he is rarely seen socializing and who in he world knows wat e gt if he is elected.
Here is "what you get" with Morefield: A judge that knows and loves the law. A Veteran whose relationship to God and country was cemented forever in a foxhole in Vienam with friends dying on both sides of him. A conserative rather than an Obama liberal. A good father. A man who has no scandalous rumors swirling about his so-called "judicial experience. That is some of what you get.
Apparently you get a Master gardner with Hight. At Rotary Tuesday, he was talking about growing a community garden and how that concept could be utilized in the Criminal Justice System. He may want to consider letting the prison system grow the gardens. If he were a little more strict on criminal cases that come before him the prison system would have plenty of help in the garden.
Clearly evidenced, Height is only strict on his political enemies who he engineers to come before him.
congrats (and good riddance) to Cleveland Advocate's Vanesa Brashier- outed JOURNOLIST member... (yes, it included two bit level editors too!)
Now, you can see the connection and SOURCE of all her media political LIES, in-print conservative assassinations, and SCHEMES!
I am just a bit confused. Why are posters allowed to make comments that go so clearly "off the reservation." It seems you have a few posters who bring in things that have clearly nothing to do with the topic.
Fight organized crime--Re-elect no one!
This site related to "more on this later" on Hight's handling of sex offenders since he was elected. That most definately has something to do with his experience or lack therof. There has been nothing else reported or mentioned. It is most definately something that that most voters would be interested in. It is my understanding that he has definately been what would be considered as "extremely lenient", if not downright permissive, in his judicial dealings with these very serious offenders. The public has a right to be informed on this matter.
I have nothing but good things to say about Mr. Morefield. Give this man the chance to prove himself!
